THE “ANGLESEY GRAND” – 8th & 9th October

Monday September 5, 2016 at 11:35am
The Wirral Hundred club’s season ends with its traditional ‘Anglesey Grand’ meeting over the weekend of 8th & 9th October. Again sponsored by ifm-moto.com, the Grand, celebrating its 23rd anniversary, will be run over two 12-lap legs of the 2.1 mile International circuit, with £2,000 of prize money on offer. Past winners have included Howie Mainwaring-Smart, Marty Nutt and Alastair Seeley, whilst more recently the pace has been set by the likes of Adam Jenkinson, the winner of the ‘Grand’ for the past two years, and circuit regulars Johnny Blackshaw, Chris Barnes, Jamie Coward, and brothers David & Matt Jones on Powerbikes, together with Jamie Devine, Chris Eden, Jamie Harris, Adrian Kershaw, Simon Napier and Rob Varey on 600’s.

The meeting also includes the final rounds of the club championships, which cater for all solo classes - Powerbikes, Formula 600, 100 – 500 Allcomers, 650 Twins, Pre-Injection, Golden Era, Forgotten Era, and Classics – together with Open Sidecars. The Club, and this meeting in particular, has had strong support from Irish and Manx riders in the past and there are again high hopes for a welcome influx of visitors again this year.

Another special feature of the meeting is the David Swallow Memorial Race for classic bikes. David was one of the most popular riders in classic bike racing, until he died from the effects of carbon-monoxide poisoning when camping overnight at the East Fortune circuit back in the summer of 2010. Ken Platt, his engine builder and sponsor, in conjunction with David’s father Bill, has provided the club with a magnificent ‘David Swallow Memorial Trophy’ to be awarded annually to the most praiseworthy performance by a rider racing a single-cylinder classic bike; £250 of prize money has been contributed not only to perpetuate David’s memory and to support the future of racing single-cylinder classic bikes, but also to remind the paddock community of the dangers of carbon-monoxide poisoning.

Entry forms are available via the club’s website www.wirral100.co.uk
the closing date for entries is 24th September, and with a bumper entry anticipated, riders are requested to enter early.
