Spring Cup becomes a 2 day super event

The Spring Cup at Oliver’s Mount Scarborough becomes a two day meeting for the first time on April 11th-12th. The main reason for this is to allow competitors to qualify for their TT Mountain Course License that they require to race in the Isle of Man and also to cut down the costs of travel and make it a more viable event for the top teams.

With Silkolene and Bridgestone coming in as partners for all the Oliver’s Mount meetings this year, the Spring Cup is being treated the same as the Gold Cup International meeting in September so if you have not booked your advanced ticket yet, you need to do so quickly, for this, the first real road race meeting of the year in Europe.

Entries already confirmed are Ryan Farquhar, who will be racing a 1000cc Kawasaki for the first time in two years and his faithful Super twin in the Super Lightweight class.

Another top rider who will be making a welcome return to a race circuit for two years is Ian Lougher who will be riding a Moto 3 Honda in the lightweights although he has raced for the last two years on classic machines but this will be his first meeting on a real grand prix type machine.

Last season’s hot favourites will return, Ivan Lintin will be riding for his new team RC Express and Lee Johnston again will be riding for the East Coast team.

It looks as though we are going to have an excellent turn out of sidecars and most of the top men are trying to rustle up more competitors to allow the class to be run in heats and A and B finals. If this comes off this will be the first time in a number of years and this gives newcomers a chance to show their worth on the tricky Oliver’s Mount circuit. One newcomer that has already entered and favourite at this year’s British Championship title is Lee Crawford.
