PENULTIMATE ROUND APPROACHES AT DARLEY MOOR
The penultimate round of the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club’s Championship is due to take place at the circuit, near Wynaston, on Sunday 21st September 2014.

With a maximum of 54 points available between the two remaining rounds all the championships are still undecided, some riders may appear to have a tight grip on their respective championship, but with the final round running just the one race per class and 36 points available for a win plenty can change.

With Jim Hodson’s (Wigan) absence at the previous round after sustaining a cracked pelvis at another meeting, Tim Poole (Northwich) may have thought he was in for a much easier run for both the Peak Cup and Open Solo Championship titles, however Hodson has sent his entry in and will be attempting to salvage some points, at least. Poole has a slim 3 point lead over Hodson in the Open Solo’s but a 2 point deficit in the Peak Cup class to bridge and only a 10 point advantage over Jamie Medhurst (Long Eaton) in 3rd place.

Medhurst has his own championship aspirations, looking ‘most likely’ to take the Formula 600 title with a 49 point advantage over Carl Booth (Swadlincote), but a large amount of bad luck could easily change that with the points still available.

Brad Vicars (Tadcaster) is another rider with his eyes set on two championship titles, currently enjoying a very healthy lead in both the Formula Darley and Mini Sound of Thunder classes. Paul Turner (Congleton), currently 2nd is left with a 39 point deficit to make up in the Formula Darley class and a 43 point gap, in 3rd place, of the Mini Sound of Thunder class. Whilst Ross Richards (Chesterfield), in 2nd place with a slightly less 38 point deficit to Vicars. These large point’s advantages are not the case for the larger Sound of Thunder machines, current leader Gary Henriksen (Matlock) holding just a 4 point advantage over Steven Hill (Runcorn), with Tim Poole a further 28 points adrift.

Another busy rider is Mark Tyrell (Evesham) who currently enjoys a 37 point lead in the GP125 Championship, then using the same machine he is lying 2nd, just 6 points behind Paul Hedison (Gainsborough) in the Lightweight Championship.

The closest championship at this present moment is the Pre98’s (up to 500cc) class Andrew Clarke (Ashton under Lyme) is leading by a single point from Alan Jones (Hednesford), with Michael Barlow (Ashton under Lyme) a further 7 points adrift. In contrast to this Shane Pearson (Derby) enjoys a 35 point advantage over Richard Stubbs (Stone) in the Pre98’s (up to 1300cc) class.

There is also a Pearson heading the Pre Injection 600 class, Shane’s brother Jamie holds a 27 point lead over Andy Lowe (Stone), with Richard Shipley (Ilkeston) in 3rd place, 43 points behind Pearson. Dean Ephgrave (Hucknall) currently leads the Steel Framed 600 Championship, a class that always runs alongside the Pre Injection machines on race day.

Matlock racers are featuring strongly in the Classic championships; Gordon Thorpe leads the Classic 500 Championship by 24 points, whilst Dale Shaw is trailing leader by a similar margin in the Classic 250 Championship, David Bradley trails the leader of the Classic 1000 class by 30 points and John Leese (Stoke on Trent) holds a 30 point lead in the Classic 350 Championship.

Fans of three wheeled motorsport will be in treat as there is sure to be some very tight races, Tony Thompson/ Jack Jones (Wirral) currently hold a 14 point advantage in the Open Sidecar class, whilst Roy Hanks/ Julie Hanks Elliott (Birmingham) enjoy a 30 point lead in the Formula 600 class.

As usual Practice will start at 10am, with the first race scheduled for 11.30am. The cost of adult admission to Darley Moor for this meeting is £12, with children under 16 free, and Senior Citizens are £8.00. Parking and Paddock Transfer is free and a programme costs just £3.00.
