“It's time to step it up a gear if you want 2014 championship glory.....”
This Meeting..... Pembrey..... Rounds 12 and 13

Pembrey sees the penultimate meeting for 2014 NG Road Racing season take to the track. This 1.456 mile Pembrey circuit is the longest continually used circuit on the NG calendar and the circuit throws up a series of demanding challenges for the riders.

Anyone with an eye on lifting one of the club's much coveted class championships, must step up this weekend. There are 50 points up for grabs in each class over the weekend, so a slip up at this stage could prove disaterous for anyone looking for 2014 glory.

On track action this weekend ranges from the 125GP bikes with fast young Welshman Mark Clayton all the way through the 600's with Corey Lewis and Max Symonds up to the superbikes with Phil Bevan taking anyone who thinks they can get the better of him around the circuit that he dominated for so many years, Julian Hughes will certainly want to one of his main challengers for Open glory.

Add to that the Pre Injections with Adam Jeffery and Mike Hobbs, the Streetstocks with Richard Hughes and Simon O'Donnell. As well as Simon Low and Paul Wardell in the Mini Twins……plus more good news, that the sidecars are scheduled to be back to add more spice and excitement to the weekends racing.

This meeting also has the final championship round for the newcomers, Stuart Hallam (Open), Aaron Silvester (Mini Twin), and Daniel Tilley (500) look to be the cream of the rookies with just one race on Saturday to decide things.........sit back on Pembrey's extensive spectator backings and enjoy the fights for 2014 titles.

The Circuit.....

This 1.456 mile Pembrey circuit throws up a series of demanding challenges for the riders. The circuit has two very distinct sections split by the Hachetts and Brooklands hairpins. The technical section from Hatchets, through Spitfires, Dibeni, Paddock and the Esses changes after heavy braking at Brooklands as the fast sweeping sections through the Speedway, Woodlands and Honda Curve take over. Despite the hairpin sections lap speeds in excess of 90mph are needed for glory.

The Fastest.....

Local hero Phil Bevan set the fastest Club lap around Pembrey at an April meeting back in 2009 on his 1000cc R1 Yamaha at 58.07 seconds, which equates to 90.26 mph. Could we see the first sub 58 second lap this weekend ?

The Phoenix Open.....

This is the premier NG Road Racing series, and is again supported by Phoenix Motorcycles from Trowbridge. All the fastest riders of the meeting racing it out for one of the biggest prize funds in the country. The Open competitors have timed qualifying and longer races to earn their points for the gruelling 20 round 2014 championship, ensuring that the very best will end up as champion. Phil Bevan and his new ZX10 Kawasaki once more sits proudly at the top on this years points table.......can anyone beat Bevan to the title?

The 250 GP ACU National Championship.....

Once more we are promoting the UK's premier Grand Prix based series. These former 250cc world championship spec machines are pure race bikes and are designed with one thing in mind......to race. The main series is backed by The ACU and Dunlop, with 100% Suspension and Watchwood supporting the NG Cup, and the new pre-'92 series. Reigning champion Chris Martin has taken a Marc-Marquez-like nine wins on the bounce and heads another past winner Ant Hodson by a massive 47 points, with South African born Phil Atkinson is still pressing hard in third.

Ones To Watch..... Phil Bevan, ZX10R Kawasaki - Open and Powerbike

It might seem like an obvious choice, but I make no apologies, Bevan is THE man around here, and has been for over 10 years, whether it be on 996 Ducati, GSXR thou or R1. Despite Phil running a track day school here he does not do as many laps as some people think (most of his time is spent in the office organising or running at slower pace as an instructor). Phil took on the challenge of switching from his old R1 to a new ZX10 this year, but is ominously for his rivals, leading the Open and Powerbike series……he is the benchmark…. he is THE man to beat.
