ACU Director receives BEM in Queen’s Birthday Honours

In the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours list, ACU Director Peter Beardmore and stalwart of the Cheadle Auto Club has been awarded with a British Empire Medal.

The 69-year-old, from Ash Tree Hill in Cheadle has been a Director of the ACU for the last ten years and has been a hard working member of the Cheadle club for over 40 years as well as fulfilling roles for both Regional and National sport committees. His hard work has landed him a British Empire Medal in this year’s birthday list, which was announced at the weekend.

The honour came as a complete shock to Peter, who still does not know who put him forward for the award. “I found out about it around three weeks ago, and when I read the letter I was more than surprised – I was just gobsmacked,” he said. “It’s a very big honour for me, and it will be a great day when I go to receive it.

ACU Chairman Brian Higgins commented “On behalf of my Board of Directors, I congratulate Peter on his Award of the BEM.  Peter has been a respected member of the Board for the last ten years and his knowledge and experience at all levels is greatly appreciated by his fellow Directors.  It is nice to see someone like Peter receive an Award and be recognised in this way –  much deserved for Peter and his wife – Margaret”.

Motorbikes have been a life-long passion for Peter, who has helped to train younger members of Cheadle Auto Club over his lengthy service with the club.
