PERFECTLY PITCHED AT PICKLES’ PLACE

The first round of the OSET Cup Northern Series was a fun and relaxed day.  Catering for riders taking part in their first ever trial to those competing at British National level – the event was pitched perfectly.

Dave Pickle’s kindly provided his land at Deepcliffe Farm, Harden for the second year running.  It’s a lovely venue, especially for those new to trials as it has a little bit of everything, including a stream, woods, steep banks and rocks.

Simon Armstrong from OSET Bikes, said: “We split the kids by ability and ran four routes.  Absolute beginners rode for fun and marked themselves.  The idea is to give kids and parents the opportunity to experience what it’s all about without feeling any pressure to compete.  Ideal for those kids that may still be paddling through sections!

“Once riding without as much support, we offer the conducted intermediate route.  Kids can then step up to the hard route and for British National riders we have the elite course.  Today, saw Dominic Horne triumph over Harry Turner – the two riders were split by only one dab!  Jak Heaney took third on the podium and also bagged the Colin Appleyard rider of the day award after being the only rider to clean the tough wall section.”

The hard route D-Class was topped by Myles Hutchinson.  E-Class rider Alexander Horne emulated his brother’s success on the top of the hard route podium and was joined by Scunthorpe’s Jasper Fox.

The expected biblical rain made just two short appearances but moved quickly away to be replaced by bright sunny skies, leaving slippery conditions in its wake.  Naming no names, there was more than one parent that could have bagged £250…

Podium finishers on the intermediate route were Finn Potter, Jacob Winterbottom and Leo Cook.

The next round takes place on Saturday 7th June at Westwood, South Yorkshire and supported by Splatshop.  Start time 11am.  Event contact is Simon Armstrong.  Email simon@osetbikes.co.uk or phone 07885 911 414
