British Quad Cross Champ date moved to aid Connor memorial
The ACU British Quad Cross Championship schedule has been tweaked slightly to avoid a date clash with a memorial meeting for British rider Connor Smith at Cingoli in Italy.
Connor lost his life at the track last year and officials there are running an international in his honour on June 29, which clashes with the British round at Lyng. Several of Connor's racing friends plan to make the trip to Italy.
British Championship organiser Chris Murphy said: "When we put together the British championship calendar we were not yet aware of the memorial event date. Normally we would not change the British dates as one of our objectives is to be as professional as possible with the series and not chop dates and venues around.
"However, we do not want to be disrespectful in anyway to Connor's memory or his family, so in the circumstance we will switch the round we had scheduled at Lyng on June 29 to Stratford on July 6."
"This move will also help any northern based riders wanting to race the British series as Stratford is much more centrally located than Lyng and is well served by the motorway network."
It is likely that some form of non-championship quad event will still be run at Lyng on June 29 to ensure that the quad community does not renege on its commitment to Norwich Viking MCC, which had kindly agreed to host the championship round. Details are to be confirmed.
Meanwhile the search is still on for potential sponsors of the British series, which has now appointed a press officer to ensure that the six round championship and any backers get excellent pre and post event coverage in specialist and non-specialist press and social media.
