NORA-MX GO EVO
The NORA MX club is introducing a new EVO class designed to get old quads (and riders) out of the workshop and back on the track. The club will run a three round series at each of its remaining meetings this year called the ZIP Evo Cup and if it proves popular the club will run a full series in 2014.

Eligible machines must have been made before 2004, and to keep rules simple NORA has split the class into two groups. Both classes will run in the same race.

The EVO class will be for production machines of any kind, such as the Yamaha Banshee or Honda TRX400EX. The second group - called EVO PLUS - will be for any hybrid machines built using aftermarket chassis, such as Philips, Laeger's or VLS.

Trophies for the first three rounds have already been put up by Zip Covers boss, Stu Walker, who is encouraging other veteran racers to get back out on track.

You have got six weeks to shake the dust off those quads and have a ride on the three EVO friendly tracks lined up for the rest of the year. Then you've got all winter to mend them.

At each round the riders - who must be 35 years or older - will get practice, plus three ten minute (plus one lap) races, with the focus firmly on fun rather than fierce competition. And, to keep costs sensible while the class becomes established, NORA is offering entry at each round at just £35, which includes entry, day licence, day membership and transponder.

Riders who wish to compete in all three rounds can pay just £100 in advance to cover all three meetings, which are at Culham (September 8), Wroxton (September 22) and Grittenham (September 29).

You will be able to enter via the NORA club's online entry system, or on the day at an area set up especially at the Zip truck for EVO competitors.

A NORA club spokesman said: "We are aiming to keep the rules pretty simple. Basically if you have a pre-2004 quad, fitted with a lanyard cut out switch, we'll find a place for you on the grid. It's all about getting more riders having fun."
