History of the event
The Donington Demon idea was muted a couple of years ago by Robert Fearnall who was circuit manager at Donington Park. He recalled that during the early 90’ that grasstrack racing was quite successful with the then Donington Dust-up. The idea was put forward to the Burton and District Sporting Motorcycle Club who were looking for a track closer to home as Tallington had been used previously and logistics were very costly and time consuming.
Sadly Robert passed away in March 2012 just before the first and only race event so far, this was a great weekend for the riders, spectators and club members and it was planned to hold two more events to coincide with the World Super Bikes and the British Super Bike rounds. Both of these events had to be called off because of the extremely wet weather. The field was damaged beyond repair after the Download Music festival and heavy rains saw the newly formed Burton and Leicester Grasstrack Association having to cancel not one but both our events in 2012.
The club held two displays of static grass and speedway machines, vintage and modern along with memorabilia in the Donington Exhibition Centre with favourable comments, which spurred us on to run the event again
Riders
In 2013 we are back, the track is looking in good condition, the long range weather forecast is better and we are now running alongside the Donington Classic Motorcycle Festival in August. Any riders who were entered in the March event should check on the Demon website to make sure their entry is still valid. Start times and admission prices
Admission to the Donington Demon Grasstrack is free although there will be a £2.50 charge for a programme with a fantastic raffle prize for the lucky winner, who will receive free weekend passes for the British Superbike meeting to be held over 6th, 7th and 8th of September 2013
Entry to the Classic Motorcycle Festival which takes place within the race circuit perimeter will be charged at a competitive rate. Details on the Donington Park Website.
PRACTICE Will be held on both days from 11.00 – 12.00hrs. First race will commence at 13:00 prompt.
