Bumper Weekend of Championship Motocross Heads to Grittenham

This weekend the ACU will be breaking new ground with a full weekend of motocross extravaganza when the West Devon Club plays host to the 5th round of the DT EVO Series combined with the 3rd rounds of both the Maxxis ACU British Championship Sidecar and ACU British Quad Cross Championships on Sunday 14th July. This unique event will take place at Grittenham MX Circuit, which is adjacent to the M4 motorway (between J16 and J17) near Swindon.

A full day of action kicks off with the Sidecar qualifying at 9am before they take to the track for their three Championship races. In the Sidecar class Stuart Brown and passenger Josh Chamberlain currently lead the way having taken 5 out of 6 race wins so far this season, 24 points behind in second are Richard Jenkins and Dan Chamberlain who took the victory from Brown/ Chamberlain at Wooley Grange. Brett Wilkenson and Craig Parmenter sit a further 15 points back in third place.

In the Quad Cross Championship reigning Champion Paul Holmes currently leads the way having won all 4 races of the series so far. Carl Bunce sits 20 points behind Holmes in second place with Lindsey Duke a further 2 points behind. With two 25 minute moto’s for the Quad riders to compete in there is sure to be some great racing.

Alongside the Sidecar and Quad classes will be the fifth round of the DT EVO Series consisting of 4 classes, all competing in three short sharp races each during the course of the day. Each race will be 12 min’s plus a lap and will produce plenty of close racing with a strong entry of riders.

This will be the first time that the Grittenham circuit has been used for either of these classes, but the West Devon Club identified the venue as being worthy of such a large event at the end of last year. A Club Spokesman said "Grittenham is ideal for all of these classes as it is not too jumpy and there are some wide sweeping bends which should provide plenty of overtaking opportunities.  There will be seventeen exciting races during the day with action continuing until 5.15pm.

The circuit will be marked with RAC signs from the South of Royal Wootton Bassett if visitors leave at Junction 16 or from the roundabout itself at Junction 17.  Admission prices are £10 for adults and £5 for children 5-15 years.
