Emotional debut victory for Rowett in Expotrade Women’s Enduro
The Expotrade FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship delivered some incredibly close racing on day one in Rhayader between RIEJU Factory Team’s Rosie Rowett and Rachel Gutish, with Rowett claiming her debut victory on the world stage.
Rowett began strongly, comfortably winning the opening ACERBIS Cross Test, before Gutish responded to top both the POLISPORT Extreme Test and GMOTO Enduro Test. With Rowett holding a four-second lead as they entered lap two of three, she won all three special tests to extend her lead to 48 seconds. But mistakes on the following two tests saw that hard work undone as Gutish took control of the race lead heading into the final special test.
With an all-out attack, Rowett fought back to top the final ACERBIS Cross Test, and with it, took her debut victory in the Women’s Enduro class. Despite coming close to victory, Gutish had to settle for the runner-up result behind her teammate. Championship leader HRC Honda’s Francesca Nocera didn’t have the pace of the two leading RIEJU riders and had to be content with third. Justine Martel (Beta) and Nieve Holmes (Sherco) completed the top five.
In the Expotrade FIM Junior Women’s Enduro World Cup, Electraction TM’s Elizabeth Tett raced clear to a 10-minute margin of victory. Lorna Lafont (Sherco) took second, while Welsh youngster Delun Davies claimed her first podium result on home soil. Lea Meier (Sherco) placed fourth.
