Donji Kraljevec, Croatia — Rising British speedway sensation Demi Blu Harris has made a dazzling international debut by securing victory in the FIM Youth Women's Speedway Trophy of Croatia at the prestigious FIM Women’s Speedway Academy in Croatia. The 14-year-old talent delivered a flawless performance, achieving a 12-point maximum in the 250cc category for riders under 16 years old.
Hailing from the UK and training regularly at Ipswich, Demi currently competes in the Young Lions Speedway British Championship. This marked not only her first time racing abroad, but also her first trip overseas. The journey was made possible thanks to her father, Nathan, who proudly drove them across Europe to ensure Demi could seize this rare and exciting opportunity.
“It’s probably the best thing I have ever done,” said Demi. “I think I got faster as the days went on. I was just enjoying myself out there. Hopefully I can come back next year.”
Reflecting on the event, she added:
“The FIM Women’s Speedway Academy in Croatia was an incredible experience. Top coaching from Greg Hancock and Glen Phillips, a great atmosphere, and amazing people from all over. I learned so much, pushed my limits, and came away with 1st place in the 250cc youth class. Grateful for the opportunity and already looking forward to the next one.”
Demi’s mature and confident performance on track, combined with her infectious enthusiasm, has marked her out as one of the brightest young talents in the sport. Her story is made even more remarkable by the fact that she received her first passport only shortly before the event.
Also representing Great Britain in Croatia was Rachel Hellowell, who finished eighth in the senior FIM Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy, which was won by Germany’s 17-year-old Hannah Grunwald, ahead of defending champion Celina Liebmann.
As Women’s speedway continues to grow, young talents like Demi are inspiring the next generation and showing that with courage, commitment, and support, no dream is too ambitious.
