RAMON TO CONTEST PREMIER ROUND AT WAGGADON FARM

This Bank Holiday Sunday May 5th the Phoenix Tools South West Premier Motocross Championships are to take place at Waggadon Farm near Torrington and has attracted a huge entry including a trio of Wildcard entries from Belgium with the likes of Buildbase Honda rider Steve Ramon topping the entry list. If the opening rounds are anything to go by the action will be fast and furious and with a star studded line up on this ex British Championship track it is likely to continue at a high standard.

In the Expert Open class it is Welshman Shane Carless on the Oakleaf Kawasaki who has a slender 7 points advantage in the Championship over Phoenix Tools rider Luke Hawkins with last years Champion Jamie Skuse on the Mx-Zone Suzuki there in 3rd, but all eyes will be on 4th place rider from North Devon Luke Hill on the DirtbikeXpress Honda who will have plenty of local support and will be looking to do well. Also in attendance at Waggadon Farm will be fellow wildcard entries from Belgium Yentel Martens (son of former 500cc World Champion Jacky Martens) and Maarten Cremers plus John May, Lewis Gregory, Tommy Alba, Luke Blanchard, Jackson Evans plus many more.

In the Tyremarks Junior Championship which is proving to be very competitive it is Welshman Jay Thomas who heads the proceedings by 27 points over Ryan Williams with Ty Kellett there in 3rd, but as with other rounds there has been many different race winners and things are expected to be close again.

In the M D Racing Over age classes there has been great interest with Mark Wilde currently leading the Over 35 Championship, but he will be up against a strong field including Jason Fraser who lies just 21 points adrift in 2nd, Gavin Flagg, Jamie Deadman plus Martyn Tucker to name a few. In the over 40’s standings its Steve Locke with just a 6 points lead over David Ford with Johnny Hawkins in 3rd and in the Over 50’s its Keith Hanson who leads from Ian Nott who has just a 2 points advantage over last years Champion Tom Lowe so it will be all to play for.

Waggadon Farm has excellent viewing with easy parking and will be signposted off the B3232 Torrington to Barnstable road (Postcode EX38 7HJ) with the first race at 10-30am.
