The Sphinx trial – and round 1 of the ACU/AJP Ultrapassar trail bike championships ran in a muddy Cotswolds on Sunday. The series is sponsored by AJP and Allan Seedhouse (the AJP importer) must have been delighted to see his rider Chris Koch take second place on one of the AJP Ultrapassar trail bikes. Allan was 'putting his money where his mouth is” riding with his son Alastair on AJP bikes, to a creditable, but midfield finish.
The trial was decided on section 12 in Nettleton quarry and section 15 in Withington Woods. These were the only sections to take marks from the leading three riders. Henry Bendall lost a single dab on the very tight uphill turn at the end of section 12 and this performance won him the trial as all the other riders took a 3 or a 5. The leading riders never dropped a single mark on the rest of the sections!
Fourth and fifth place was also decided on a tie break with Rob Faulkner just getting the better of Dave Renham on his trusty DT175 Yamaha.
The Ultrapassar is ideally suited for such Long Distance Trials work, coming equipped with top quality suspension and a durable 200 or 240cc air-cooled engine. Based on AJP’s proven PR3, it’s effectively a smaller frame on 18” and 21” wheels, giving both lightness and manoeverability. It continues to be a best seller in the AJP Range.
