On Sunday 5th May the 2013 Bickers Lifting Eastern Centre Solo Motocross Championship moves to the famous Cadders Hill circuit at Lyng in Norfolk for round 2. For the first time in many years the Centre Championship will be run over the full British Championship length track giving non British Championship riders a chance to test themselves over this physically demanding 1865 metre track.
This year the Eastern Centre has been very fortunate to attract an excellent title sponsorship deal from Bickers Lifting, a company run by former British Championship rider Paul Bickers. MC Comps, a company run by Essex based expert rider, David Ford, is also a partner for the series. The financial support from these two companies has enabled a very healthy prize fund of £1,425 to be offered at each Eastern Centre Championship round; £315 is up for grabs in each of the three expert races and £160 for each Junior Championship race. The top expert has an opportunity to take home £210.
Norwich Viking’s former British Champion and Grand Prix winner, Carl Nunn leads the expert championship on 75 points following a faultless performance at the opening round at Wakes Colne in Essex a couple of weeks ago. Luke Benstead is 9 points adrift after recording 3 second places in round 1. Following his return from Austrailia, Syd Bales is in third place a further 8 points behind Benstead. 16 year old Aaron Pippon was the surprise in round one and currently holds 4
th place in the championship on 50 points. Carl Nunn riding the Stebbings backed 450 KTM will be favourite to extend his title lead. Carl likes Lyng and has already showed most of the British Championship MX1 riders that he is still on the pace by finishing 7
th overall in the Maxxis British Championship round at Lyng last month despite being semi-retired these days.
Carl Parker also scored a maximum 75 points at the opening round of the Junior Championship after a last gasp win in the final championship race pipping Cameron Harris almost on the finishing line. John Waghorne holds second spot in the champioinship on 58 points with Declan Whittle in third only 2 points further back. Declan will be hoping to increase his points haul at his local track where he also got valuable track time in the MXY2 class at the recent Maxxis British Championship round.
Using the full championship length track is a big undertaking for the Club and requires quite a few more marshals than usual. If riders are able to provide a marshal please do so, or if anyone else is able to offer their services they will be most welcome; in return for being fed and watered as well as a contribution towards their expenses.
Spectators are welcome, admission price is only £7 for adults, children 5 – 15 £2, car parking is free.
