Otter Vales Motor Cycle Club Sidbury, Devon - Sunday.
Kirkbymoorside farmer’s son Dan Peace opened the 2013 Class A and B trials championship at Wolverlseigh Farm, Sidbury, by beating 2012 champion Jack Price and hot Swaledale contender James Stones.
It was close all the way and ended in a most cleans tiebreaker. Price posted the best lap of five penalties on his second lap at the muddy Wolversleigh Farm venue but Peace stuck to his task with consistent laps of 8-6-and 8. Price more or less lost the trial with a ten score on lap one. Birkett Ossa mounted Billy Bolt showed his switch to Ossa from Beta had not affected his skills to finish fourth while Welsh Champion Iwan Roberts never pulled back on track after a miserable opener.
Porlock teenager Tom Hooper rode his RCM backed MRS Sherco to a stunning Class B victory at the opening event in the five round ACU Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British Youth Trials Championship at Wolversleigh Farm, Sidbury on Sunday where the Otter Vale Motor Cycle Club staged the trial. Tom challenged in 2012 for the Class B title and never finished lower than fourth. He won the final event in the series at tough Bracken Rocks in Derbyshire at the end of the 2012 season.
Truro contender Toby Martyn made his debut in the much harder Class B age group after taking second place in Class C last year. The transition to Class B was a huge step for the talented Cornish boy who was beaten by Class C champion Jack Peace, by a single point! The one penalty kept Toby off the rostrum.
The Otter Vale club struggled with very heavy land conditions on the day but careful section planning and routing by Clerk of Course Rod Broom kept penalties in each class at a sensible level.
The next event in the series will take place in the Lake District on May 11/12.
