Isle of Man TT, Manx GP and Southern 100 Welfare Officer Receives MBE

Isle of Man TT Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson has congratulated Wynn Evans after she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year honours list.

Mrs Evans received the honour for her work as a motorcycle racing welfare worker.

ACU General Secretary Mr Thompson, also an MBE, said:

“I am really pleased that Wynn has been recognised nationally for the work that she does for Manx motorsport.”

“This is a well deserved award and I'm sure that everyone on the Isle of Man will join me in congratulating her.”

Mrs Evans has been involved with Manx motorsport since 1980, voluntarily serving as a welfare officer and providing support to injured riders and the families of those who lose their lives in competition. She became the welfare officer of the Manx Grand Prix in 1998 and for the TT Races in 2000.

Her role sees her act as the main liaison between race organisers and riders’ families, a role in which she has been responsible for passing on news of accidents during racing.

She is also an officer for Isle of Man centre ACU Benevolent Fund and her husband Des was the chief travelling marshal for many years.

Manx Motorcycle Club Chairman Harvey Garton said the club was delighted with the award, calling Mrs Evans an ‘unsung hero’ who is ‘well respected throughout the whole motorcycling community’.
