ROUND 1 OF THE CURTIS MILNER TROPHY AT DARLEY

Round 3 of the Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Championship takes place on Monday 7th May 2012 and in addition to the usual trophies on offer the first half of a special ‘championship’ in memory of a young Darley Moor racer will be fought in the second Formula 600 race.

The Curtis Milner Trophy is in memory of a young rider who started his racing career at Darley Moor and who was a regular at the circuit with his father, but he unfortunately died in a road accident in 2003. Craig and his wife Tina wish the memory of Curtis to continue into the future and have donated this wonderful trophy in his memory. The Trophy, along with the £500 prize fund, is normally decided in the afternoon’s Formula 600 races over the Easter and May Day Bank Holiday meetings, but unfortunately due to the adverse conditions that tested everybody the Easter meeting was cut short. This year it will be the May Day meeting and Round 4, due to be held on Sunday 24th June, the aggregate winner over these two rounds will receive the Trophy and £250 cheque, with 2nd place and 3rd places receiving £150 and £100 cheques respectively.

Last year’s winner was Richard Wardle with Jim Hodson, 2nd and Steve Proctor, 3rd, at present Wardle and Hodson are both entered for the meeting and you can guarantee these will be amongst those most likely to lift the Trophy in June.

In addition to the Formula 600 races there will be the usual mix of two, three and four wheel action with the solos, sidecars and regular guests, the Long Circuit Kart Club all with plenty of local racers to support.

A special mention must go to the Hodson family from Wigan, who although not from the immediate local area are strong supporters of the Darley Moor Club. In both the Formula 600 and Peak Cup races all three members of this fast racing family, father Jim, plus sons Rob and Jamie will line up on the same grid. Jim is currently leading the Peak Cup, Open Solo and Formula 600 Championships, while Rob is joint leader of the Lightweight Championship and 2nd in the Formula Darley class.

As always there is plenty of space for camping/caravanning over the weekend, from Friday afternoon through to 10.00am Tuesday morning at just £5.00 per night.

Practice starts at 10.00am, with the first of 19 races due to start at approximately 11.30am. Adults £11.00, Senior Citizens £6.00, kids under 16 free, parking & paddock transfer free, with Programmes £3.00.
