This weeks ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. Here is a selection of just a few events taking place.
Motocross
This weekend the Quad Events UK group is promoting the fifth round of the ACU British Cross Country Championship on Sunday 31st July. The fifth round of the Championship will be taking place at a new and exciting venue of Hounslow Hall Estate, Newton in Longville, MK17 OBU. The event has kindly been sponsored by Langfords Welsh Sausage Company. With three Youth classes taking place in the morning for a two hour long race, before the action switches to the Adults after lunch. Four different classes of Adults will be competing over the duration of three hours in the afternoon. The Adult class also features three sub classes, which are the Ladies, Under 21’s and Over 40’s.
On Sunday the Milton Moto Club are hosting their first meeting as a club at the superb Milton MX Park venue. The meeting will form a round of the South Midlands Centre Championship, consisting of an Expert Championship class, Junior, Over 40’s and Over 50’s. This meeting will be using transponder lap scoring and the club will be providing the hire of transponders free of charge. Practice will be starting at 9am and the admission fee for Adults will be £5 per person.
Following a three year break the penultimate round of this year’s BYMX series makes a very welcome return to one of the world’s great MX courses - namely Desertmartin in Northern Ireland. The Porters Pit venue approximately 30 miles from Belfast played host to a Maxxis round quite recently and duly received universal praise for the quality of the racing circuit, the high standard of the facilities and the professional organisational skills shown by the Cookstown club. With only two rounds of the championship left to run there is sure to be plenty of close racing as all riders battle for every point possible on the day.
Trials
The 2011 SPEA FIM Trial World Championship arrives in Nevis Range, Fort William – Scotland for the sixth round of the series, the focus is now very much on the riders that will be representing Queen and country at their home GP. During the weekend of 30/31 July a host of British talent will descend on the Scottish Highlands, looking to make their mark on sections that should favour the home runners. In fact Britain will be the best represented nation in the World Pro class, with no less than five riders featured on the entry list. Spearheading Britain's attack is twelve times FIM Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin – Gas Gas. In search of his 100th GP win and sure to be motivated by massive home support that will be present, Lampkin is fully committed to taking victory on British soil. Current British Trials Champion, James Dabill is also looking to stamp his authority on the famous Scottish sections and currently sits sixth in the overall standings. Twenty-one year old Jack Challoner on the Beta will also have high hopes arriving in Fort William. Despite this only being his first year in the World Pro class, Challoner has produced a series of determined performances. Michael Brown currently sits in ninth in the standings and will travel to Fort William riding on a wave of confidence after recently taking his maiden win of the season at the latest round of the 2011 British Trials Championship.
On Sunday 31st July the Ilkley and District Motorcycle club will be hosting the third round of the Sammy Miller Products Trials Championship at Pateley Bridge. The event will be starting at the Pateley Bridge Auction and will consist of one lap spread out over 35 miles and a series of sections of Public roads. With 11 different classes competing during the event, all riders will be looking for a good solid result when the event starts at 10am. With the championship only at round three this event will be vital to the overall outcome of the Championship in November.
Enduro
This weekend sees the British ISDE team travelling to Finland ready for this year’s ISDE event. This year’s ACU British ISDE teams consists of Paul Edmondson, Tom Sagar, Si Wakely, Jordon Rose, Greg Evans and Ash Wood and the Junior team of Alex Rockwell, Danny McCanney, Jonny Walker and Jack Rowland, all riders are geared up and ready to go. The riders will be arriving in Helsinki on Monday 1st August before a 120km drive east to the event venue in Hamina/Kotka in anticipation of walking the first of the tests on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile the bikes will be on route, after loading our Rygor Commercial trucks at Bordon courtesy of Dave May Miller and the Army MCA team lads. The teams have been given their helmets sprayed in team colours by Lee at Dzign, and the team shirts have arrived and are looking good, the Kriega equipment has been loaded ready for the event. The loss of Arron Poolman from the team due to injury has opened the door for team manager Dusty to now take a pre-rider/out rider and this job was keenly taken up by Justin Wilson who from previous form will certainly raise the team’s morale. A more than able paddock support crew of Carl Bale, Julian Stevens and Leo will be on hand to help with any last minute prep problems and tech support throughout the event.
This weekend the Kingswood MCC will be hosting the Abbottside Enduro which will also be a round of the Wessex Centre Enduro Championship. Clerk of the Course Mark Bennett and the landowner have worked hard to extend the course and increased the number of man-made obstacles around the spectator and start area. Sunday’s event will start at 11am with eight different classes competing over the course of a 3 mile lap and will run over the duration of 2 ½ hours. The event will see Matt Ridgeway return to try and claim the victory for the sixth year running, this year he will face competition from the likes of Andy Frost and Tom Smith.
Grasstrack
This weekend the Fenland Grasstrack Club will be hosting the Norman Southgate Memorial Meeting, the meeting will also features the Bill Barley, John Morrey and Shaun Ducker Memorial Trophies. The two day event will feature Youth and Vintage racing on the Saturday with practice at 11am and the first race at 12:30. Sunday will feature Adult Solo and Sidecar action, again starting at 11am with Practice and 12:30 for the first race. The Fenland Grasstrack meeting will be taking place at Greenacres Farm, Raveley Road near Huntingdon, PE28 5YX. During the course of the weekend the club have arranged for a beer tent and free camping. Admission prices for the Saturday are £5 for Adults £3 for 14-18 year old and OAP, Concessions, while under 14’s are free, on Sunday the Admission price will be £10 for Adults, £5 for 14-18 year old and Concessions, under 14’s are free.
This Sunday the Pickering & DMC will be hosting the second round of their Club Championship at Riseborough near Pickering. The event will also feature the Top Gun MX UK Best Pairs meeting. Practice will be starting at 12 with the first race of the day starting at 1pm. With a strong entry of riders in all classes there is sure to be plenty of fast racing.
Road Racing
On Saturday and Sunday the National Hill Climb Association will be hosting a hill climb at the Curborough Twisty Sprint. The event will be run over a course distance of 900 yards consisting of twisty left and right turns. With five different solo classes and two sidecar classes, it is sure to be a good event. On the Saturday practice will start at 1pm whilst on Sunday the action will begin at 10am.
This weekend Nora Sport will be hosting the sixth round of the ACU British Supermoto Championship at Three Sisters in Wigan. With 11 different classes competing over the course of the weekend it going to be a long weekend of exciting racing at the Three Sisters venue. In the main British Championship class Chris Hodgson currently leads the standings after five rounds, ahead of Craig Venske and James Addy.
