Borderline Brilliance from BYMX
Alexander Brown with a storming day two performances triumphed on home soil in the Junior 65's laying down a 5-2-1-1-1 card as opposed to second placed overall Jed Etchells who carded 3-1-5-2-3. Stylish Colin Scott won the opening heat but a day two injury knocked him down to fifth overall. Callum Meara and Harry Kimber fought it out impressively for third and fourth places on the podium respectively - as Oliver Costerdine proudly rounded out the top six. Scott Russell won the combined support section proving to be an equal match for any of the championship racers on the day. Brown and Etchells are now tied for the championship lead. As a result of their fine efforts both Etchells and Russell won a pair of Gaerne boots each courtesy of Hucklebridge Events.
The third round of this year’s BYMX series proved to be a total success enjoying some fine sunny weather in the glorious Scottish borders countryside at the Duns MX facility. The event superbly organised and hosted by the Borders MX club.
Going into the event there were two more tied points’ situations in both of the 85cc classes - but following round three clear water now exists. In the SW's Conrad Mewse proved to be in a league of his own claiming all five heat wins in commanding fashion - he now leads the championship way. Sid Evans with a polished 2-3-2-2-2 result claimed the runners up berth north of the border and he climbs the points table into third. Jay Hague finished with a Scottish bronze going 3-2-3-6-3 good enough to stay second in the title hunt. It was nip and tuck for the other podium positions as Jordan Eccles just got the better of Will Keogh and Taylor Hammel for places four five and six.
In the B/W's guest support rider Ben Waitron put on something of a masterclass to resoundingly win four of the five races - but in the Championship stakes Liam Knight takes a clear lead following his consistent 3-2-1-3-4 winning performance. Knight just pipped Honda rider Rob Davidson for the overall win by a single point and Davidson will be ruing his opening race 10th place finish as that surely cost him the top spot. Davidson carded 10-1-4-1-1. Third overall went to Tom Neal - he finished with a real flourish bagging the second place finish in heats four and five.
Ryan Houghton won the youth Open class taking four of the race wins in a quality display of fast starting and professional race craft. The other moto win and arguably the best race of the weekend went to James Dunn piloting a 125cc two stroke machine. Dunn relentlessly chased down Houghton in heat three going on to eventually claim a magnificent win and third overall. Series leader Nathan Watson although not enjoying rapid success from the start gate sliced his way through time after time to retain his championship lead in some style with second overall. Jamie McCanney took fourth and that included spirited rides in races one and five where the placed second and third respectively. Jake Millward featured at the sharp end prominently on day two and fifth overall was his just rewards as Mark Perfect claimed sixth with another fine display. Also in the section guest rider Ryan McClean had his moments to savour - but dogged by mechanical failures.
In an entertaining set of Adult support races Carlton Husband and Stevie McKenzie took all the plaudits - Husband eventually winning the section with four race wins.
