Ivan Mauger stars at Tallington World Championships

15-time World Speedway and Grasstrack Champion Ivan Mauger will make a star appearance at the MO.R.I.S FIM 125cc Grasstrack and 250cc Longtrack Youth Gold Trophy Championships at Tallington near Stamford in Lincolnshire this weekend 24th – 25th July.

Ivan will be signing copies of his new biography for fans as well as keeping an eye on the best schoolboy racers in the World at this unique event. He said: “I will be at Tallington and any of the young riders who have ambition are welcome to talk to me. If they have the initiative to talk to me I will help them.”

One of the best hopes for British success at the event is Oliver Greenwood in the 250cc class. Oliver, 15, from Cannock, Staffordshire, said: “This is the biggest race of my career to date and I really want to win it. The best riders will be there and I want to win it for Britain. I hope that race fans will join us at the event and cheer me on, I can’t wait.”

Recently recovered from a broken leg, Oliver raced last weekend against a strong adult grid and finished an excellent third, so is on top form and raring to go.

With riders from Germany, France, the Netherlands, France, New Zealand, the Czech Republic and the UK competing, the racing promises to be right from the top drawer and the winners will be marked out as future World Champions.

In the 125cc races British hopes are with Jack Cornes the Under 15 British Champion. The racing is expected to be fast and fierce on the immaculately prepared grasstrack circuit and will be a feast of action for motorsport fans of all ages.

There is a fantastic support card of races featuring the very best in British grasstrack racers, including Jamie Rodgers, Tim Nobes, Paul Cooper, British Champions Lewis Denham and Harland Cook and teenage sensation Tom Perry – all riding 500cc bikes capable of going from 0-60mph in 2.5seconds on the grass.

Practice starts at 1300 on Saturday 24th July and in the evening from 1800-2100 the Speedway racing will be broadcast inside the beer tent. Once that is finished the riders will be presented to the audience.

There will be a rider presentation and interview with Ivan Mauger at 1230 on the Sunday before the racing starts at 1300. Excellent facilities, including camping, will be available for all spectators; so for a day or weekend out with a difference why not give it a try?

Prices to attend (single tickets allow access Saturday and Sunday)cost just £15 per adult, £5 for 14-18-year-olds and concessions at £10. A family ticket for two adults and two 14-18-year-olds is £35. Children under 14 are free. It will take place at Tallington Showground, Stamford and there is camping available.
