The second round of the ACU Maxxis MXY2 British Motocross Championship at Brampton in Cumbria was dominated once again by ACU Academy rider Josh Waterman.
Both Waterman and Luke Hawkins continued their terrific form to take a win and a second place each. In the first MXY2 race it was Hawkins who took the victory and for a brief time, the Championship lead by just five points. He came over the line 2.01secs ahead of Waterman.
The second race was a different affair with Waterman getting away well and Hawkins having to battle through from fifth place. Waterman won by an impressive 18.739secs completely dominating the race. With the same results each they have both remained tied at the top of the standings on 94 points.
Connor Walkley who is still suffering from a sore back from an earlier fall put in two good rides after qualifying in second place. He maintained his third place in the title chase and once he is fully recovered he will set about reeling the other two riders in.
Another Academy rider, Ryan Houghton, had a productive day on track in Poland. He competed in the 85cc European Championship finishing in 18th and fifth places during this high level event.
Roy Barton, ACU Motorsport Academy Manager said: “I’m thrilled with how all our riders are doing. I really do feel that all the training they did in the off season is paying off. They are being consistent and getting the results they need which is why they are leading the Championship.”
The third round of the MXY2 Championship will take place at Hawkstone Park on Sunday 14th June.
