2009 Metzeler ACU British Enduro Championship begins

Thursday February 5, 2009 at 12:00am
EMG Muntjac kicks of the first round of the Metzeler ACU British Enduro Championship on Sunday 22nd February at Thetford Forest, Suffolk.

The organising club Diss MCC and long term event sponsor EMG Motor Group were delighted when entries to the event were completely full within four days of opening. In fact the event is so popular that 80 entries had to be returned.

The entry list has quality as well as quantity with 36 riders capable of taking the honours in the Championship class. The Expert Clubmen and Veterans also have an excellent line up within their classes.

To keep everyone on their toes the check times will tighten up as the day goes on so it will be the fittest riders that will make the final time control and remain clean on time.

Soft sandy terrain makes up the 23 miles of the Muntjac course which is rideable in all weather conditions. This is one of the attractions of the event as riders know they will get value for money in terms of time spent in the saddle as opposed to stuck in the mud.

Number of laps completed will depend on the class of rider but normally the Championship riders will complete six laps of the course which tighten up throughout the day giving very little time for rest.

The sting in the tail of this event is after almost 140 miles off road, the Championship riders have to ride the special test again just after the final control.

Big names taking part in this tough enduro include current British Enduro Champion Tom Sagar, GNCC Champion, former World and British Enduro Champion David Knight, plus former World Enduro Champion Paul ‘Fast Eddy’ Edmondson.

For fans who want to see their heroes in action the start area is along ride 24 just North of Brandon on the A1065 Brandon to Mundford road.
