Starting National Road Rallies

What do I need?

The 3 National Road Rally events are open to all UK residents (including the IoM and Channel Islands) who are riders of mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, three-wheelers, quadricycles and motorcycles and scooters with sidecars who have passed the appropriate Department of Transport driving test or are otherwise exempted from displaying ‘L’ plates.

Riders can be unattached (do not have to be a member of a club or organisation).

ACU Competition licenses are NOT required.

These are non-competitive skill based road events where entrants use navigational skills & planning to achieve a skills based ACU award from Bronze to Platinum.

ACU membership will be granted to all riders and passengers for the duration of each of the 3 ACU National Road Rally events. All references to ‘riders’ in the Regulations (and other ACU National Road Rally documentation) include drivers where appropriate.

 Event Format

The event will take the format of a Navigational Scatter Event where riders are required to navigate to a number of specific Controls spread throughout the country. Riders will be given the Control details prior to the event which lists the locations of the Controls in order for them to plan their own route.

Riders can team up, and there is an option to enter as a team of three. Riders can start at any Control and finish at any Control but must only visit each control only once. Some Controls will be manned and compulsory rest breaks are required. Rider’s arrival at the Controls will be recorded by the Rally Live App which can be downloaded prior to the event.

Benefits of Entering National Road Rallies

The ACU national Road Rallies are an ideal way to become a member of the ACU for FREE.

Entrants will gain access to the ACU Website with regular updates to the competitive and non-competitive events that take place throughout the year.

Taking Part in the National Rallies gives entrants the opportunity to plan rides to some of the most spectacular scenery in the British Isles. Riders will also vastly improve their planning and navigational skills.

The Navigation and planning skills can become the bedrock and entry into the world of Motorcycle Adventure riding.
