SUPPORT FOR BRANDON STADIUM

Thursday February 12, 2026 at 6:53pm

Brandon Stadium opened in 1928 and staged speedway racing every year (apart from the war years) right up until it was closed by property developers at the end of 2016. In 1954, stock car racing was introduced and ran alongside speedway up until the stadium was closed.

For the last 10 years, a campaign fighting the closure has achieved notable successes. A planning application to build houses on the iconic venue was refused by Rugby Borough Council in 2022 and a subsequent appeal by the developers against that decision was rejected by a government appointed inspector in January 2024.

Rugby Council wishes to see the stadium reinstated for speedway and stock car racing and propose the inclusion of a policy in the emerging Local Plan which would result in any planning application contrary to that objective being refused.

We are asking ACU members who would like to see the famous ‘Coventry Bees’ and stock cars return to Brandon to show their support by sending an email to:[email protected]

It simply needs to say:

You support Policy W1B of the Local Plan and the reinstatement of Brandon Stadium

It must include your Name and Address and be sent by 28th February.
