With preparations for the 2026 season well underway, TrialGB officials can confirm some updates to the regulations for the next British Championship campaign.
Both the TrialGB and TrialGB Youth series will retain their successful two-day event format next season. An updated safety equipment regulation will also be introduced in 2026, with the use of knee and back protectors compulsory for all riders in the series. Stringent rules that require assistants to wear protective clothing and helmets will be retained.
In a move that further enhances the technical and environmental credentials of both series, a formal Technical Control area will be introduced and overseen by the TrialGB event team in 2026. Competitors will also be required to use an environmental mat at events.
Officials have also adjusted some class names in the main TrialGB series. The former Youth A and B classes will carry the Trial3 and Trial4 titles next season, while any riders moving onto an A class licence for the first time in 2026 will be given the option to remain in Trial4.
As a build on this, a brand-new Trial3 Girls class for Youth A or B licence holders will be introduced, as well as a Trial3 Women’s category for adult riders.
TrialGB Series Manager, Sam Connor, said: “We had a fantastic 2025 season and the focus now is on fine-tuning TrialGB ahead of 2026 so it provides new opportunities for riders to compete and develop, and opens up new ways to further enhance our safety and environmental credentials.”
In a bid to encourage more club riders to compete in the TrialGB Youth series, officials will lower the difficulty of sections on events. This championship will also benefit from electronic scoring and a more consistent TrialGB experience in terms of media attention, awards, and interest from the motorcycle sport industry.
TrialGB Youth Manager, Matt Galway, said: “The Youth series is already in good health, but we wanted to make the prospect of stepping up to British Championship level even more attractive to riders in the earlier phase of their careers. These tweaks will support rider development and only benefit the Trial discipline in future years.”
Questions relating to the 2026 TrialGB season should be sent to a trialgb@acu.org.uk with either ‘TrialGB’ or ‘TrialGB Youth’ in the subject line to indicate which series the questions relates to.
