British Youth Enduro Championship Launches with ACU Leadership

A New Pathway for Young Off-Road Riders in Britain

The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) is proud to announce the launch of the British Youth Enduro Championship, an exciting new series designed to nurture the next generation of off-road talent. Under the guidance of the ACU Enduro Commission this championship marks a new era of opportunity for young riders across the country.  ACU Enduro Commission member and series co-ordinator Huw Watkins said “We have enjoyed great successes in recent years on the European and World stages. Our senior enduro riders are great role models and we know that we have some excellent young riders coming through. We intend to provide a platform for their continued development.”

About the Championship

Created as a crucial stepping stone between youth hare and hounds events and the prestigious British Enduro Championship, the British Youth Enduro Championship provides an ideal platform for young competitors to develop their enduro skills and progress through the ranks of the sport. The series will feature time card enduro events, renowned for their competitive and rewarding format, challenging riders to excel in skill, consistency, and endurance.

Event Format

All championship rounds will be held within established events, guaranteeing the highest standards of organisation and safety under ACU regulations. Importantly, no roadwork is involved, and all laps are designed to exclude byways, ensuring that all riding takes place in a fully off-road environment. This not only reflects the core spirit of enduro but also prioritises the safety of young participants and respects the local environment.

Championship Classes

To ensure inclusivity and appropriate competition for all youth riders, the series will be divided into three categories:

·        Youth Expert – For those seeking the highest level of competition and challenge.

·        Youth Clubman – Open to experienced competitors wishing to further hone their abilities in a supportive setting.

·        Youth Sportsman – Perfect for newcomers and those eager to experience enduro in a welcoming, accessible class.

Stepping Stone to Future Success

The British Youth Enduro Championship, established by the ACU, is designed not only as an arena for competition but as a structured pathway leading ambitious young riders from youth hare and hounds events towards the full British Enduro Championship and opportunities beyond. With expert stewardship from organising clubs and the ACU Enduro Commission, the championship provides the crucial experience and mentoring needed for young athletes to progress confidently within the sport.  GB Women’s Six Days team manager Alexandria Jones said “"I'm super excited about the release of the British Youth Enduro Championship! This is an incredible step forward for our young riders, and I can't wait to see the talented young girls making their way through the ranks. Who knows, we may be witnessing the future stars of the Team GB women's junior team!" Lead Coach for the ACU Under 21 Squad Alex Snow said; “I feel this is a really positive move for British youth enduro. We have some great, promising young riders coming through and to be able to give them this opportunity to learn the skills and sportsmanship of enduro is a really important part of the process in producing more young British enduro riders for the future.”

How to Get Involved

Registration for the inaugural season will open shortly, with further details to be released soon regarding dates, locations, and how to enter via Sport 80.  Initially the events are a single day but depending on progress, subsequent seasons may involve two day events, and be part of the senior BEC. Young riders, parents, and club officials are encouraged to stay tuned to official ACU communications for the latest updates as we embark on this exciting new journey.
