The ACU is saddened to announce the passing of Frank Dixon, a long-serving member and passionate supporter of motocross.
Frank’s love for the sport began as a rider in the 1950s and 60s, where he competed at British Championship and national level events, earning recognition as an expert rider. Away from the track, he was a member of the South Eastern Centre for many years and also served as Chairman of the Crawley Motorcycle Club.
In 1997, Frank joined the ACU Motocross Committee, becoming Chairman in 2000, a position he held for three years. He continued to serve on the committee until the summer of 2005, giving almost three decades to the sport he loved. His involvement extended to major international events, including the MXGP and Motocross of Nations at Foxhills in the late 1990s and early 2000s, where he acted as Clerk of the Course. He also proudly represented the ACU as an Overseas Delegate at European GPs, with a particular passion for Sidecar Cross.
Sonia Goggin, ACU Commission Secretary, said “I’ve known Frank for 30 years. He was a great man to work with — a real doer! As a chairman, he was always extremely supportive, and over the years our families developed a true friendship. Through this sport, you meet many acquaintances, but only the real friends stay with you through the years.”
Frank will be remembered for his lifelong commitment to motocross and the significant contributions he made to the sport at every level. The ACU extends its deepest condolences to Frank’s family and friends at this sad time.
