On Tuesday 22nd July, the ACU held its annual open forum with the ACU Track Racing Organisers on Microsoft Teams. The meeting was facilitated by ACU Track Racing Commission Chairman, Dickie Staff, ACU Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Edwards-Wear and ACU President, Tim Lightfoot. It was good to have around thirty members on the call to discuss the current health of the sport and to discuss ideas and thoughts ahead of the 2026 season.
A number of key topics were discussed including improving communication with organisers and having some online open meetings between the Track Racing Commission and the Organisers. The ACU and TRC would keep the press appraised of any updates and information so that the correct information can be portrayed in the media as there was concern from current Grasstrack organisers of the damage caused to the sport by the ongoing news items in one of the press outlets.
Other discussions involved recruiting more officials, investing in grassroots sport, and helping to assist with the development of the youth through all possible means.
The election would take place later this year for members to the Track Racing Commission and nomination papers had been issued to organisers and Centres for nominations to be made.
The Track Racing Commission will work through the items raised and a follow up meeting between the Track Racing Commission and the organising clubs would be held in the autumn.
