The ACU Trial GB British Championship is back — and it’s better than ever. With the introduction of new classes and a surge of talented riders joining the field, including Youth B, Trial2 Women, and Trial GB Women, the 2025 season promises to be one of the most competitive and inclusive yet.
This year, the championship will take place across four incredible weekends, with four different clubs each hosting two rounds. Rounds 1 and 2 were held by the fantastic team at Inch Perfect Trials, set against the rugged and diverse terrain of the Inch Perfect Trials Ground.
The format for the weekend featured two laps of 12 sections, offering a wide variety of challenges — from man-made obstacles and river beds to steep hill climbs. With a mix of seasoned competitors returning and new riders experiencing the series for the first time, the atmosphere was a dynamic blend of nerves, excitement, and anticipation.
Following heavy overnight rainfall, Round 1 began under tough, slippery conditions. Muddy banks and slick surfaces made for a technically demanding day, especially in the riverbed sections and narrow climbs. The adverse weather didn’t just affect the terrain — it also pushed some classes to their time limits, adding an extra layer of intensity to the event.
Despite the challenges, the riders rose to the occasion, demonstrating exceptional skill and resilience. The youth and women’s categories, in particular, made a powerful impact, proving their place in the championship and inspiring others with their performance.
Most of the course featured slippery riverbeds and muddy embankments, requiring riders to carefully navigate steep ascents and descents. The final section of the day, designed as a showcase for spectators and photographers, featured a man-made course of large rock steps — made even more difficult by the rain.
Round two of the ACU Trial GB British Championship saw several key changes to the 1.4-mile course. Though held at the same venue, a number of sections were modified and a few entirely new ones were introduced, offering fresh challenges for riders and ensuring the day felt like a brand-new test.
Unlike the rain-soaked opening round, conditions for Round 2 were much drier, providing improved grip and reducing the pressure on timing. Riders were able to focus more on their technique without the added stress of slippery terrain or delays caused by weather.
The first part of the course introduced two new river sections, which proved particularly tough for the higher classes, such as Trial2 and Trial GB. These riders had to contend with steep climbs both into and out of the riverbed, demanding precision and power. For Youth, Women, and lower routes, these early sections served as an ideal warm-up — challenging, but manageable — helping them prepare for more technical obstacles ahead.
Although some sections remained from Round 1, they were no less difficult in the improved weather. Riders experimented with new lines, and many sections continued to be as punishing as they were in the wet. One of the standout challenges of the day came at Section 10 — a new addition featuring loose bankings, boulder-filled riverbeds, and a series of daunting rock steps near the end. This section took points from even the most experienced competitors, but a handful of riders delivered standout performances, demonstrating incredible skill and control to earn a clean.
The atmosphere throughout the weekend was electric. Minders called out crucial guidance, the sound of bikes echoed up the hillsides, and spectators watched in awe as riders tackled the demanding terrain. The venue was excellently prepared, with food and drinks available, clearly marked spectator-friendly sections, and a welcoming environment for all attendees.
There was a special buzz among the younger riders, many of whom were thrilled to compete alongside some of Britain’s top trial talents. The inclusion of youth and women’s classes continues to add fresh energy to the championship, helping to inspire the next generation of competitors.
Although the weather created tough riding conditions, the opening weekend of the championship was a huge success. Riders expressed their enthusiasm for being part of such a prestigious and high-level competition once again.
With two rounds now complete, the series moves next to Hookwood for Rounds 3 and 4 this weekend — where big steps, technical terrain, and jaw-dropping sections are guaranteed.
