Broadbelt Masterclass at Lyng!
On Sunday 27th of April, the Norwich Viking MCC hosted their annual Dennis Slaughter memorial race meeting, incorporating round 3 of the popular NGR championship. A busy 15 race schedule awaited the riders on a tough and demanding Cadders Hill circuit.

Race one of the ‘A’ group got underway with Max Broadbelt grabbing the holeshot and checking out from that very moment, putting in a dominant display from start to finish. Local rider Declan Whittle had a solid race in second but was never really close enough to make the pass on Broadbelt. After some great battles in the top 10, Callum McCaul rode strongly into 3rd place at the finish ahead of Kayden Smith in fourth and Connor Bunkle in fifth.

‘A’ group race two would see Broadbelt again dial in off the gate and into the early lead, with Whittle and Charlie Nudds close behind. Broadbelt again however was in a different class, controlling the pace from the front and weaving through the backmarkers swiftly to take race two victory. In second again was Whittle, with McCaul in third ahead of Oliver Brader and Charlie Nudds.

The third and final ‘A’ group race of the afternoon was the selected Dennis Slaughter memorial trophy race, where the highest placed Norwich Viking club member would take home the trophy in honour of the late, great, ‘King of Lyng’. The start would see a carbon copy to the previous because Max Broadbelt again powered his Honda to the lead in fine style. This time Wiliam Farrow was in the top 5 early on fighting for position, alongside club member Adam Reeve. No one was a match though for Broadbelt and he once again rode impeccably to take a hat-trick of wins, to carry on his good form in 2025. In second across the line was Declan Whittle and he deservedly wins this years much coveted memorial trophy. In third was Farrow ahead of McCaul and Bunkle.

The ‘A’ group overall would go to Max Broadbelt, second place on the podium for Declan Whittle and in third Callum McCaul.

Round 3 of the NGR championship burst into life with Sean Wright leading the opening laps, Arran Powley then passed and briefly led before dropping the bike and leaving Wright to storm home and finish with the win. Powley finished second ahead of Aaron Hopkins in third and Tyrone Tugwell in fourth.

Race two in the NGR’s, and Sean Wright this time wasn't put under any pressure as he efficiently made his was around cadders hill to take the race two victory. Aaron Hopkins made some nice late moves to finish second and Powley finished in third.

The final NGR race of the day and Wright dominated from start to finish leaving the rest in his wake, comfortably crossing the line ahead of Hopkins, Robert Baldry and Powley in fourth.

The overall would go to Wright with a fantastic display, in second on the podium was Aaron Hopkins and in third was Arran Powley.

The ‘B’ group overall would go to Ben Whatling with a solid 2-2-2 ahead of Luke Nolan in second with a 6-1-1 and in third was William Giddings with a 1-3-12
