Brits target home podium as world championship returns to Foxhill this weekend

The FIM World Sidecarcross Championship returns to British soil this weekend (24-25 May) as Foxhill Motoparc in Wiltshire hosts a world championship-standard motorcycle sport event of any kind for the first time since 1998.

The Foxhill showdown, which is authorised and facilitated by the Auto-Cycle Union – the national governing body of motorcycle sport in the UK – counts as round two of the nine-round world championship calendar. Great Britain will have a number of talented sidecar motocross crews competing at the event, all eager to secure success on home soil.

Brett Wilkinson and Joe Millard (pictured above) are the British pairing that are expected to take the fight to defending world champions Marvin Vanluchene and Nicolas Musset, and Latvia’s Lielbardis brothers who were series runners-up in 2024.

Wilkinson and Millard occupy sixth place in the series standings after round one in the Czech Republic earlier this month. The duo finished fifth in the world last season and are targeting a career-best podium finish at their home Grand Prix.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Wilkinson explained. “We’ve got a lot of speed at the minute and our form has been good of late. Winning our first World Sidecarcross GP event at Rudersberg in Germany last season was a big moment in our careers and Joe and I are looking forward to hopefully getting on the podium in front of our home fans.”

The 2025 British Grand Prix marks the first time Foxhill has staged a world championship sidecarcross round. The Wiltshire venue – carved into a steep chalk valley – last welcomed the world’s best motorcycle sport riders for the Motocross des Nations event in 1998.

Major changes have been made to the layout of the Foxhill track ahead of this year’s GP, with a new, previously unused configuration promising a unique challenge for riders and a dramatic spectacle for fans.

“I’ve only ridden at Foxhill once before on a sidecar and I know the organisers have made some big changes,” Wilkinson said. “I think it’ll be spectacular to watch with some big jumps and crazy downhills. I’m expecting it to be a great track for a close battle.”

Wilkinson and Millard, three-time British champions, travel to Wiltshire full of confidence, thanks to them having a new Ppower Husqvarna engine that they hope will propel them to GP success.

“The engine isn’t so much a step up, just a lot more reliable,” Wilkinson explained. “When you’re confident the bike’s going to finish the race, you can ride it properly without second-guessing whether it’s likely to blow up. That’s the type of confidence you need to score positive results.”

Event organiser Brad Skeates, Racing Manager at Waterlooville MCC – the club responsible for organising the Grand Prix, believes Foxhill’s long-awaited return to the world stage is a landmark moment for the sport in Britain.

“Foxhill is an iconic venue,” he said. “It hosted the Nations event back in 1998 but hasn’t held a world championship event of any kind since then. So, to bring a GP back to the track after 27 years is a really big deal and I’m very excited to see it all come together after the UK didn’t host a world round in 2024.”

As well as welcoming the best riders from the FIM World Sidecarcross Championship, Foxhill will also host the EMX Quadcross European Championship – the series that Britain’s Harry Walker won convincingly in 2024. He is currently placed second in the 2025 standings after the first round at Kramolin in the Czech Republic.
