Regulations and registrations forms are now available for the forthcoming ACU British Quad Championship. They confirm it’s going to be a five-round championship this year. As well as the main championship, there is an under-21 category and the new National Expert Class, designed to attract up- and- coming top level riders who have not competed in the British Championship or higher in the past. With a cash prize fund at the end of the series, a fully refundable, modest registration bond is all that is required to commit to the series. Entry fees are paid directly to the host clubs when riders confirm their entry to each event, making entering the events easier and more cost effective for the riders.
The main championship and the National Expert class are scored separately but race together at top tracks Dean Moor, Armthorpe, Cusses Gorse, Little Silver and Wroxton. There will also be an award after each event for the best placed “Rookie” defined as the first year a rider is competing in the British championship Series.
The premier ACU quad clubs, Nora MX and NETT will host two rounds apiece while Waterlooville MCC is to take on a round for the first time.
Both quad clubs have structured their own championships to allow their top riders to race the British without affecting their club points. Club principals Richard Shaw of Nora MX, and Karl Robinson of NETT, have worked closely with the ACU to revitalise the series and make it more attractive both to riders who have competed in it before and to the new blood that has been coming up through the ranks of the regional quad clubs.
Karl Robinson is keen to encourage riders to sign up quickly, saying: “Let’s get back to racing with a bang - after such a difficult time for lots of people, it’s time to bring out the quads, refresh the fuel and make this series happen.” He also suggested that for NETT members doing the Club Champs class, it is worth signing up to the British, given that the first two rounds are hosted by their club. “You’ve got to be in to win it” he said, “and if you’re doing the NETT events on these weekends anyway, why not give it a go.”
Richard Shaw was equally enthusiastic, commenting: “I’ve got a long list of NORA MX riders that this British Championship would suit. As everyone knows I’m passionate about quad racing and I want to see progression, steps for riders to move up as they compete year after year.”
“The British Championship title is the top step in this country. Winners of that title have much to be proud of and there are more than a few riders, out there now, worthy of it. And the introduction of the National Expert class will help recognise the champions of the future, bridging the gap from top club rider to British level.”
“As the British grows in numbers again, I’d like to think it will feature again on an even wider range of tracks and events. We’ve made a start this year with the inclusion of Waterlooville’s event at Cusses Gorse.”
“And as everyone recovers from the last year or so, I understand that there is caution about committing to a whole series, but we can all, in the meantime, confirm intent!”
Riders can show interest simply by contacting the ACU. Registrations close on 5th April at which point all that is payable is the bond of £70 for the main British Championship and £40 for the National Expert.
