South West Premier MX Championship for 2018

Thursday August 31, 2017 at 6:59pm
Now is the time to start thinking ahead to the 2018 series. Unfortunately several of the key workers have decided they can no longer commit to the series in the way they have so have resigned from the Committee. We are therefore in urgent need of a new Committee or Manager to step up and take the series forward. We are in grave trouble if people do not come forward.

When we took this on three years ago we all said we would keep this prestigious series going for three years to see how it goes. Those who took on the task have completed the three years and find that they can no longer carry on for various reasons. We have all worked really hard to make it a success and now need new faces to build on that success and continue our work.

There is no doubt that if no-one volunteers or a promoter does not come forward to buy the series it will be lost after 21 years, the Club is in crisis. We started as the M D Racing Products Championship. We them became the Remedies Bar Championship in 2000. After that it became known as the Premier MX Championship which was supported by Phoenix Tools, then it was supported by Gabriel Insulations and now it’s St Blazey Motocross Championship. So, quite a history.  Of course there were many other supporters over the 21 years to whom we all say a very big thank you.

Chairman Roy Hooper would like to hear from anyone who is interested.

We have ideas to make the Secretarial side a little less intense and Keith & Kevin will be staying on to do the timing on race days. Other ways of making life easier are being given some thought and, maybe, if you are interested, you have some of your own.

The organisation also requires a lot of work on Saturday to set the event up and also after the meeting, the packing up. It is hard work but can be very satisfying at the end of a good days racing.

Most importantly we need someone to drive the lorry with all the equipment needed, which is also used as the timing truck during the racing.

We think there is a place for this series and would all like it to continue. We have prided ourselves on organising efficient, friendly events. We respect the riders who, in turn, respect us as organisers. If you think you can continue in this vein and are interested please come along to our final 2 events this season on Saturday & Sunday September 9th & 10th for setting up and Sundays racing at Whiteway Barton and on Saturday & Sunday September 23rd & 24th at Landrake Moto Parc.

Roy’s contact details are: evenings, which is the best time to ring him, 01453 872 692 or 07850 384 299.
