Scott Trial Charity Presentation Evening

The Centenary Scott Trial culminated in the annual Charity Presentation Evening on Friday 27thFebruary, held at the Buck Hotel Reeth. This year a total of £16,300 was given to local charities and causes. John Fraser Chairman of The Scott Trial Committee spoke about the trial and its history, thanking the landowners, gamekeepers and tenant farmers for their continued support and also thanked all those involved in the trials organisation. Scott Trial Treasurer Richard Hague then presented the cheques in no particular order:

Swaledale Scouts, Swaledale Mountain Rescue, Reeth &Gunnerside Primary Schools, Ravensworth C of E School, Arkengarthdale Primary School, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Great North Air Ambulance, Leyburn CP School, Reeth Young Farmers Club, Swaledale Seedlings Playgroup, St Johns Centre, Royal Agricultural Benevolent Fund, Friends of the 2 Dales Nursery, Hambleton &Richmondshire Multiple Sclerosis Society, Swaledale&Arkengarthdale Luncheon Club Association, Richmond Cricket Club Youth Section, The Moorland Association, St Teresa's Hospice, DELTA, Holmedale Pre-School, Richmond Cricket Club, Wensleydale Rugby Club Development Fund, Gamekeepers Welfare Trust, ACU Benevolent Fund, Mowbray Suite & Alistair Bullan Memorial Fund at The Friarage Hospital, Marrick Parish Council for Marrick Institute Fund, Robert Dent Memorial Fund,H& R Carers Centre.

Nigel Mackenzie Manager for the 2014 Centenary Scott Relay Team presented cheques for more than £4,000 raised by their team, to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Great North Air Ambulance. 3 times World Champion Yrjo Vesterinen, Trevor Willans, Joe Buckworth, Glen Scholey, Mark Willis and Carl Tennent, some of whom were multiple award winners in the event from the 1970s until more recently, completed the trial as a relay team in just over seven hours.

At the end of the evening, Chris Wallis retiring Scott Trial Secretary was presented with a Neil Sturgeon framed photograph of Orgate Falls in recognition of Chris’ work and dedication to the Scott Trial over the last 7 years. Chris had asked specifically for Neil’s photograph of Orgate but without bikes, as it is one of her favourite sections.
