Wilkinson and Kirwin take victory at the 4th round of the Maxxis British Sidecar Cross Championship

The fourth round of the 2014 Maxxis British Sidecar Cross Championship took place at Cadders Hill, Lyng yesterday hosted by the Norwich Vikings club

In timed practice Brown / Chamberlain were fastest nearly 1.5 seconds quicker than Jenkins / Chamberlain with Wilkinson / Kirwin third.

When the bikes came to the line for race one the Millard brothers were having engine problems and although they did get off the line their race didn’t last one lap.

Brown took the holeshot from Jenkins with Wilkinson third. Pelling / Cuff were tipped over at turn one and Breacher ran into the back of him. Also involved were Bradford / Peters. The surprise start was wild card rider Field / Pannell who were in sixth place which they held for over half the race. The leading five did not change and Brown took the win from Jenkins with Wilkinson third. Field was finally overtaken but still finished eighth.

After an unfortunately long break caused by no ambulances being on site the second race didn’t start until nearly 3 pm. Brown again took the holeshot from Jenkins with Etheridge / Grahame third and Field in fourth. The front three didn’t change and finished in that order. Field held his place until lap six when he was overtaken by Wilkinson. Two laps later having dropped to thirteenth place he dropped out.

Before the last race the decision was made to cut out the big hill for safety reasons. The final race was headed again by Brown with Wilkinson second and Jarvis / Humphrey third. Jenkins didn’t get away with the others and was dead last. Halfway round lap one Wilkinson took the lead from Brown. He held the lead for over half the race but Brown relentlessly closed the gap and made his move on lap eight. Unfortunately he made it on a bend where there were waved yellows being shown because of a fallen rider.

Brown went on to win from Wilkinson with Millard finishing in third. Long after the race it was announced that Brown had been penalised for the yellow flag incident and dropped to tenth place.

Despite this Brown still leads the table by sixty three points from Jenkins with Millard third just thirteen points behind. The next round is at Toddington on the 17th August.
