Norfolk Arena Hosts Short Track UK
Monday August 16, 2010

Dirt trackers jump to it at Norfolk Arena!

One of the longest-running internationally, but most rarely seen in the UK, motorcycling disciplines makes its annual much-anticipated return to King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena this Sunday (22 August 2010).

Track and Trail not only uses that set of initials so famous in the motorcycling world, but actually this form of ‘TT’ racing has been a staple of the dirt track racing scene in the USA since the 1930s. Here it’s part of the hugely popular and fast-growing Short Track UK series – a series which has adopted the Saddlebow circuit as its spiritual home since the first meeting held there back in 2005.
The format sees the familiar Speedway circuit (home to the Premier League Stars side) converted so that after twice a lap, riders mounted on a variety of flattracking and adapted Super Moto machines, will turn onto the in-field area, traverse a jump and a right turn to re-enter the track. With 12 riders a race in races up to 12 laps in duration, the event is rightly known as dirt track motorcycling’s version of the steeplechase.............

ACU license holders and motorcycle race fans are being urged to sign a petition to allow roads to be closed for sporting events without needing an Act of Parliament - a requirement that is holding back motorsport in England, Wales and Scotland. The UK is losing out both in sporting and economic terms as a direct result of the law that requires an Act of Parliament to suspend the Road Traffic Act on a stretch of the public highway. Throughout Europe (and also in Northern Ireland and the Isle of....

Masters Update

"The ACU would like to congratulate the ASTRA Club and its small band of helpers for putting on a superb event on Sunday, they made the British Masters a wonderful showcase for British Track Racing.

During the meeting a number of unfortunate racing incidents took place, and the latest position with the injured riders is as follows:-
Paul Cooper - Can now walk with crutches and is expected to be home within the next 24-48 hours.
Lewis Denham - released from hospital and recovering at home with a back brace.
Rob Mear - released from hosptial and recovering at home
Steve Smith - bruised and sore but ok

The Track Racing Committee and the ACU wish all injured riders a speedy recovery.

Following these incidents racing was suspended for 90 minutes to allow the medical team to provide the correct treatment to the injured riders, and as a consequence of this delay the meeting officials decided to cancel the fourth set of heats to ensure a timely completion of the event.

The ACU would like to thank all the spectators for their patience during this delay, and apologise for having to reduce the number of qualifying heats following the delay."

Tom Perry wins British Under 21 Grass Track title at Ugley
Monday June 14, 2010
TOM PERRY (Wolverhampton) was crowned British Under 21 Champion at Ugley on Sunday after a thrilling afternoon’s racing at which the title lurched one way and then the other.

The racing produced four different heat winners and one of the favourites, Harland Cook (Watford), had three second places during the heats. Charlie Saunders (Swindon) saw his chances of the title slide across the track on the first bend of his third ride, his bike careening into the path of oncoming riders causing the race to be stopped and Saunders excluded - prior to this point in proceedings he was unbeaten.

Vince Kinchin
Tuesday May 25, 2010
Vince Kinchin RIP

Vince died pursuing a sport he loved and had participated in for many years. He was a true Grass Track racer who dedicated the majority his life to Track Racing.

Indeed you would find him one week competing at an international event in Germany, the following week a British Championship event in England and the following week a club event in his local Centre. Vince had competed at the top level of Grass Track for over twenty years.

Messages of condolences have been received from around the world. He will be sadly missed by fellow competitors and spectators alike. But his spirit lives through his young sons.

The ACU Track Racing Committee passes its condolences on the Vince’s wife and family.
