Yeomans takes Expert crown

By the narrowest of margins, Sam Yeomans (Vertigo) clinched the ACU Trial Expert Championship by a single point from his arch rival, Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) at Matlock on Saturday.

In a relatively low scoring event, the tall Vertigo rider set himself up for the win and put his main rival, Dan Thorpe (Gas Gas) under pressure with a near faultless opening lap to put himself five marks ahead, which he maintained to the finish of the thirty six section event.

Again by the narrowest of margins, Emma Bristow (Sherco) took third position with consistent laps of 4-6-6 to head off Tom Affleck (Sherco) by a single clean. Both completed the course without a single failure or footing, losing singles or two's in their score of sixteen. Consistent point scorer, Lloyd Price (Gas Gas) kept in touch for a podium finish until near the end when a final lap of ten dropped him to fifth, but this was enough to stay well clear of Bradley Bullock (Beta). Gwynedd Jones (Beta) maintained his one hundred per cent scoring record in seventh, whilst Chris Alford (Scorpa) completed the top eight with a score of thirty five.

The more remote section six, an easy looking twisting section on the banks of a stream was one of the major mark stealers as the initial few meters dug out and became difficult to attack.

An entry of thirty four entered the class and all of them completed the course with the top twenty seven staying in double figures over the thirty six sections.
