The Arthur Smith Trial played host to ACU Luscombe Mitsubishi Leeds British Youth Trials

Despite the inclement weather prevailing in Northumbria on Saturday and Sunday the North East Centre ACU staged the ACU Luscombe Mitsubishi Youth Trials Championship for all classes. In terms of numbers forty three Class C and D contenders rode a Fred Nicholson prepared three lap two mile course with a total of thirty section observed section on Saturday. On Sunday the Class A and B youngsters rode an almost identical course but with more ambitious section routing.

 

Billy Green extended his lead in Class C standard wheels of Daniel Slack with Buxton’s Mitch Brightmore in third place. The Newton Abbot boy requires is a finish at Cogden Hall in two weeks when Richmond stages the championship finale.

 

In Class C medium wheels Jack Dance cannot be beaten as Dale Freeman trails Jack by a margin of thirty one points. Huddersfield’s Harvey Mosley could rock the Freeman effort at Cogden Hall. Flying Scott Jamie Galloway is about the same position as Jack Dance so a finish is all that is required. In all classes the lowest or none score is deducted from the total gross points.

 

Class D small wheels are an Oset in house battle with Harry Hemingway leading Manchester’s Harry Turner by a mere two championship points with Dominic Horne trailing by twenty seven points.

 

Silsden’s Josh McParland has won four out of five events in the new Class D i/c engined class which was introduced after Scarborough on April 26.

 

As far as Class A read Dan Peace is on maximum but has a double header in Ayrshire and a finale in Bracken Rocks. The latter is the leveller. Whoever tames Bracken usually lifts the title. Dan went down to Jack Price last year by a single point. The drop score also manipulates the end product.

 

That very much applies to the Class B leaders. Sam Yeomans and Tom Martyn sit on an equal seventy championship points with Jack Peace waiting in the wings on sixty four points. This class is a three horse final sprint with Sam Johnson a distant twenty two points off the rostrum.
