It
has been announced today that the Prime Minister has said that Councils are to
be given the power to suspend the Road Traffic Act under certain circumstances.
This
is tremendous news as a great deal of work has been undertaken – lead by the
MSA to try and get legislation changed to allow properly organised and
regulated motorsport to take place on closed public roads like the rest of
Europe and of course the Isle of Man.
Brian
Higgins, ACU Chairman commented “This is the news we have all been waiting for.
I am aware that a long campaign and a great deal of work has taken place to try
and get legislation changed to allow motorsport on Closed public roads, this
now looks very much like it could become a reality”.
John
McGuinness, 21 x Isle of Man TT winner said “Having been involved with the TT
for many years, I have seen the benefits motor sport events on closed roads
brings to a community, so this can only be good news for the UK”.
