Martin Powell (Suzuki 1000) retained the Crewe and South Cheshire club’s 450-1100cc Open championship in this fourth and final round of the Crewe and South Cheshire club’s series, with yet another hat trick. Powell was pushed all the way by season-long rival, David Atkinson (Honda 600), but stayed ahead in all three races to make it nine wins from 11 starts.

Atkinson crossed the line less than half a second down in race one and had he had not baulked by lapped riders might have won. Atkinson was less than a second behind Powell for the first five laps in race two, but slower traffic again came into play and Atkinson was just under two seconds adrift at the flag. Atkinson had the consolation of the fastest lap of the meeting in race three.

Thomas Heatley (Honda) was another hat trick winner, monopolising the Steel Frame class, run alongside the big bike class. He took his total of victories to ten from 11 races, clinching the championship by a clear 25 points and finished an impressive third overall in all three. Peter Bullock (Honda) chased him home in all three races.

Kimberley Rose (Honda) retained her 125GP title with three more wins. She held a slender five point lead over veteran Ted Cornes (Honda) coming into the meeting, but made certain of her title with victory in the third race to give her a total of 108 points, nine more than Cornes. Steve Nugent had to switch to his Minarelli after the exhaust on his Van veen Kreidler split, but despite winning all three races missed out on the title by six points.Kevin Burton was third behind Nugent and Roger Naul in all three races to retain his title.

Steve Jones (Honda 400) won both the Supersport 400 and Forgotten Era 251-500cc championships. He led Mike Davies (Kawasaki) by just three points in the Supersport class and was only 15 ahead of David Williams (Honda) in the other, but made sure of the crowns by taking second spot to Chay Budden (Honda) in all six races.

Craig Hauxwell and David Williams (CLK Ireson Honda 600) wrapped up the sidecar title after just the first race, heading home Irish visitors Mike Donovan and Aaron Galligan (Ireson 600) by over 11 seconds. Hauxwell was beaten by Donovan in race two after the Irishman spun his outfit at the hairpin and Hauxwell stalled the motor. In race three Hauxwell was given a ten-second handicap and failed by just four and half seconds to win.

Paul Myler’s hopes of winning both the Minitwins and Forgotten Era over 501cc titles were dashed in this final round of the championships. He missed out by just eight points to Vincent Brett (Suzuki) in the Minitwins class, where Chris Dean (Suzuki) won all three races. Myler made no mistake in the Forgotten Era class taking runner up spot to Chay Budden in all three races to clinch the crown.

Caron Roberts rattled up a hat trick to make it 8 wins from 11 starts to take the Forgotten Era up to 250cc title by a 25 point margin from Dave Edwards. Keith Powell scraped home in the Classic 125 and 250 Single cylinder class. A second and two thirds took him to 88 points, nine more than Dave Thorp, who failed to finish in the third race after finishing second in the first two. Bob Millinship was a non-starter, but still finished third in the final standings, ten points down on Powell.

Tom Jackson was another non-starter, but he could not be caught in the Classic 250 class, beating hat trick winner Geoff Hadwin by 11 points. Adrian Day took three seconds to clinch the Classic 251-500cc class. The club’s Sidecar Endevour award went to Chris Wade.

The Novice award was won by Kevin Robinson and the Junior award by Kyia Metcalfe.
