What's on Weekly 14th and 15th July

This weeks ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. Here is a selection of just a few events taking place.

Motocross

The Woodbridge and DMCC will be hosting the third and final round of the GH Motorcycles of Colchester and G&B Finch Wednesday Evening series on the 18th July at Blaxhall. The former British Under21 and British Four Stroke circuit is sure to produce some superb racing. The Championship so far has seen Former British Champion Carl Nunn win the Opening two rounds. Other riders putting in a strong showing at the previous event include British Championship riders Lewis Tombs and Luke Norris, while Local Experts Chris Bastick, Jason Morland and Brad Tomlin have all had good showings. Other British Championship and Centre Experts riders including James Cottrell, Aston Bird, Sam Arbon, Will Kerry, Ben Talbott, Gary Hoptrough and Glen Bixby who have all entered the Blaxhall event. With a short and intense ten race format the racing is sure to be exciting as the top riders battle it out for overall honours. Admission price for the event is £5 with Practice starting at 5:30pm with the first race starting at 6pm. There is still a limited number of spaces available for riders wishing to enter. Any riders wishing to enter should contact Debbie Blyth on 07963 118917 or via email on motocross@woodbridgemcc.co.uk

Two of the UK’s top moto cross track are up next for NORA-MX and the quad club has put together some excellent money-off offers to tempt new and returning riders to enter. Round seven of the club’s ACU Southern Quad Championship will be held at Culham (OX14 3DA) on July 15th, with the series then moving to the spectacular Pontrilas circuit (HR2 OBF/ www.pontrilasmxtrack.co.uk) a week later (July 22). New riders to the club qualify for an introductory all-inclusive entry of just £40 for adults and £25 for youth riders. For that riders get race entry (three races, plus practice), an ACU day licence, day club membership, plus free use of a transponder for the day. To qualify riders must be completely new to the club, or not have not competed at a Nora-Mx event in 2010/11/12. So, all you riders with quads sitting idle under dust sheets, why not get out there again and have some fun! As an added incentive, any existing club rider who introduces a new rider to the club at these meetings will get a free race entry at a future meeting, if the new rider also returns with them. Both venues are superb natural hillside tracks that are used for all the major solo national championships, and at Culham NORA will be using the famous original circuit (which it used at round one), but run in reverse. In addition to racing, riders attending also get to watch the thrilling new ACU British Side X Side Championship which is run by NORA. Up to 25 of the ATV derived machines are expected. Entry forms for both events can be downloaded at www.nora-mx.co.uk and if you have any queries please call Chris Murphy on 07860 668434.
Plus check the club’s website for regular updates – www.nora-mx.co.uk – where you can also enter events using the ACU’s secure online entry system.

The adverse weather that has hit the United Kingdom in the last seven days has forced RHL Activities Limited to postpone this weekend's ACU British Youth Nationals Series round at Howton Court, Pontrilas. Like many other areas, Herefordshire has experienced higher than average rainfall over the past week. The rain has left the Howton Court track unsafe to race on and, with more rain expected to arrive tomorrow and continue throughout the weekend, the decision was made to postpone this weekend's event. "Welcome to the British summer! We seem to have had nothing but heavy rain here this week, which has left the Howton Court in a right state," explained Gareth Hockey, Director of RHL Activities. "We came up to Pontrilas today to start preparations for the weekend ahead, but it was immediately obvious that the track was never going to be able to host any racing this weekend. If the weather forecast wasn't for more bad weather then there may have been a slight chance, but with heavy rain forecast from tomorrow until well into next week, preparing and then maintaining the track would have been not only impossible, but also dangerous for the riders." Hockey will meet with the British Youth Nationals Series riders during the next round at Fat Cats MotoParc in Doncaster, which takes place from 4 to 5 August, to discuss possible dates on which to run the rescheduled Pontrilas round. "We know how busy the schedule is during the summer, with a lot of riders racing almost every weekend. We don't want to reschedule the Pontrilas round on a weekend that would stop anyone from competing, so we'll sit down with the riders in Doncaster and discuss the options," concluded Hockey.

Trials

Now going into the second half of the 2012 ACU British Trials Championships. The next round is this coming Saturday and Sunday at Ruby Rocks at Bagtor Baron, Islington, Devon. The important bit however these days is the postcode for the satnav which is TQ13 9RT, a great help when negotiating some of those narrow country lanes. Ruby Rocks was used 3 years ago for the British Championships and the organising West of England MCC felt it a better venue for a no stop event than Kelly Farm. It was also the venue for last year's Southern Experts and features mainly stream sections which follows the valley upwards but is usually quite accessible for spectators. Practice is on Saturday between 2.30 and 5.30 with the trial starting Sunday at 9.30. The Expert group will be first away so the Championship contenders will be starting around 30 minutes later. The Expert group is currently headed by North Eastern rider John Crinson who so far has a win and two seconds to his name giving him a tally of 54 points. His nearest challenger s are Richard Timperley and Adam Milner but both are 12 points behind. At the top of the Championship it will surprise no one that those two arch rivals James Dabill and Michael Brown are fighting it out at the front. Brownie won the series opener but Dib's has come back to take the next two rounds and that puts him just one point ahead in the title race. Alezx Wigg is lying third on the Gas Gas and he won here the last time the series came to Ruby Rocks. Lets not forget the 125cc Championship that is also proving to be a straight shootout between Bradley Cox and Tom Dexter. Bradley has two wins to Tom's one but they are just are just three marks apart so they still have all to play for.

Enduro

It is with great regret that we have had to make the decision to cancel this years Hafren BEC scheduled for this weekend, 14/15th July. The cancellation is due to the persistent bad weather and weeks of rain we have had, and no sign of a substantial improvement between now and the weekend. The course is totally saturated, with many parts being un-rideable, and with the growing environmental pressure we work under with the forestry commission we are afraid that the damage caused may jeopardise the long term future of motorcycle events in the area. Another issue is that the harvest has not been taken off the fields for the special tests and service. This is not a decision we have taken without a great deal of consideration, we have looked at many different options and potential solutions, none of which are workable. We would like to apologise to all who were planning on attending for any inconvenience caused, we are as disappointed as anybody. All riders entry fees will be refunded less £5 to cover some of the admin fees and the several thousand pounds loss the club will have to stand as a result of such a last minute cancellation. We would like to thank Rob Sheldon at Rock Oil North and others who committed their support to the event. If you have any queries please contact us on info@hafrendbc.co.uk

If your club is running an event in the coming weeks and would like to be a part of this feature please contact Richard Blyth on pr@acu.org.uk with details of your event.
