Suzuki GSX-R1000 K5 and K6 safety campaign

Friday February 6, 2009 at 12:00am
If you own or race a Suzuki GSX-R1000K5 or K6 (2005 and 2006 model years) then a new safety campaign has been set-up.

Reports have come in stating that in certain extreme situations where high stresses are passed through the frame it can crack or break.

This has occurred behind and below the steering head tube especially if the motorcycle has been subjected to repeated hard landings from wheelies.

Normal riding of the motorcycle does not generate this level of risk however Suzuki has decided to conduct a Safety Improvement Campaign to minimize the potential for frame cracking or breakage in extreme circumstances.

The affected models are in the VIN range stated below: GSX-R1000K5: JS1B6111200100006 To JS1B6111200101883 GSX-R1000K6: JS1B6111200101888 To JS1B6111200104047

All Authorised Suzuki Motorcycle Dealers will inspect the relevant areas of the motorcycle frame for cracks. If no cracks are found a frame reinforcement brace will be attached to the frame using bolts and epoxy adhesive. The appearance, performance and handling of your Suzuki motorcycle will remain unchanged with the reinforcement brace installed.

This whole process from inspection to fitting the brace will take approximately 3 hours to complete and your motorcycle may have to remain at the dealership overnight to allow the epoxy adhesive that is used to cure. This service will be performed at no cost to you for parts or labour.

Should cracks be found in the frame it will be replaced with a new frame together with the reinforcement brace installed. This will take longer than just the inspection but the Dealership will advise accordingly.

If yours is a road bike Suzuki GSX-R1000 K5/K6motorcycle Suzuki will provide a 5 year warranty on your frame and the frame reinforcement brace commencing on the date of installation by your Suzuki Dealer. (excludes race machines)
