Birstall Motor Cycle Activity Centre BUMPY Ltd, based at Birstall, are the first organisation in Yorkshire to adopt a green policy within their extensive training facilities. As part of their strategy of reducing their carbon footprint Bumpy Ltd are looking to the future by introducing to their fleet of training vehicles, both off road and on road, electric powered, by batteries. Initially two off road trials machines manufactured by Mecatecno have been purchased to complement the trials machines.
Ms Carloyne Kenzitt, Project Manager at Bumpy Ltd comments “These machines will reduce BUMPY Ltd impact the environment and educate our young people from an early age, as young as four years, and members of the community into the benefits and enjoyment that can be obtained from using low carbon emission technology in sport and in recreational activities, or commuting to and from work. Following the Auto Cycle Union’s (governing body of motor cycle sport in the United Kingdom) dedication to introducing the electric trial class into sport for children from four to six years BUMPY Ltd will organise and electric machine series in 2012. This competitive series of events will encourage children of today who are the adults of the future to these new exiting times, giving a lasting impact to their lives and development” Bumpy will also consider other forms of power in their road machine licence training school.
Robin Luscombe, a director of Mecatecno UK, and fifteen times national British Motorcycle Sidecar Trials Champion, endorses the forward thinking plans by BUMPY Ltd. Mr Luscombe has been involved in motorcycle sport for over thirty years.“ I think that BUMPY Ltd are thinking well ahead of their time by going for electrically powered motorcycles. The motive power will, and is, changing direction rapidly, on two and four wheels. These Mecatecno machines are the tip of an iceberg, in wheeled form” National S3 Parts National champion Dan Thorpe is a staff member of Bumpy instructing on all off-road motorcycles and related sports. “The addition of the Mecatecno electric trials machine is another step towards conserving fossil fuels and slowing down environmental pollution”
