This year’s Future West ACU British Supercross Championship has attracted the best ever line-up of British teams and star riders from all four corners of the British Isles and the world. Understandably there's already a sense of regional pride and friendly rivalry building between England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
This year each country has riders capable of landing a British Supercross title. As a result Future West have decided to introduce an additional award for the series to be called the BRITISH NATIONS CUP which will be annually awarded to the winning country. Each country's top 2 riders who accumulate the most series points in the British Supercross and British Supercross Lights pro classes combined will have their riders names and country engraved on the cup as British Nations Supercross Champions for that year.
Future West’s John Hellam had this to say: “This is an idea that's been in the back of our minds for some time now. With this year's great representation of riders from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales the timing is perfect and hopefully will be the start of a long tradition. Over the past 15 years British riders have progressed to be some of the best in the world on arena size tracks."
The British lads now lead the way and have had great success in this form of Supercross as witnessed with Ashley Greedy and Jack Brunell winning the German SX Championships and Adam Chatfield clinching the Brazilian Supercross Championship. Another expat who grew up racing British Supercross is Billy Mackenzie who won a round of the Australian SuperX Series. Steven Clarke, Tommy Searle and Max Anstie also applied there British Supercross experience on the US Supercross tracks with impressive finishes.
If you are hitting up a round or two of the British Supercross Championship and who wont be, then come make some noise for your fellow countryman and show your nations pride, may the best country win!
The gate drops on the first of the five rounds at the Sheffield's Motorpoint Arena on Saturday October 22nd. For more information on the British Supercross Championship visit www.fwsx.com for tickets to Sheffield contact the Motorpoint Arena box office on 0114 256 5656.
