This weeks ‘What’s on Weekly’ features more events from around the country. Here is a selection of just a few events taking place.
Motocross
This weekend Team GB will be heading to St Jean d’Angely in France for the 2011 FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations. Team GB consisting of Dean Wilson, Tommy Searle and Brad Anderson will be heading to the event with high hopes of glory. Following a recent string of good results by all three members of the 2011 squad, Team Great Britain will have strong hopes of making it onto the podium after just missing out last season. Tommy Searle proved that he enjoys the St Jean circuit by capturing the overall victory at the French Grand Prix held early in the year, along with an overall victory at the recent Guildof round and finishing joint Overall winner at the final round of the Grand Prix’s last weekend at Fermo. For the Motocross of Nations Tommy will be competing on a 450 machine in the MX1 class. In the MX2 class American based Dean Wilson recently claimed the 2011 AMA Lites title and has been the top rider in the AMA Motocross National series all season clinching the title with a round to spare. Dean’s recent run of form will give me the extra confidence, knowing that he can run with the top riders of Blake Baggett and Ken Roczen in the MX2 class when the gates drop in France. British Hero and fan favourite Brad Anderson will be hoping to continue his superb form of recent weeks into the Motocross of Nations. Following on from winning the ACU Maxxis MX1 Championship in Duns with a round to go, Brad followed up by taking a fantastic fifth place overall at the British Grand Prix held at Matterley Basin.
This weekend Milton MX Park will be holding an opening Practice Day at Milton Park. The practice day is open to all from Auto’s to Adults. Prices are £20 for Auto’s, £25 for Under 16’s and £30 for Adults. For more information please contact either Stuart on 07976 696773 or Jackie 01920 444205 during office hours.
Sunday will see the Kensworth Schoolboy Motocross Club staging a meeting at the Milton Park Circuit. The meeting has kindly been sponsored by Ferris Building Supplies. Sunday’s meeting will feature classes for all from Auto’s to Adults. For more information about the event please visit the clubs website www.ksmxc.co.uk or by contacting Lorn on 07505 185331
Enduro
This weekend the West of England Motorcycle Club will be holding a Hare and Hound Enduro event at Wolborough Barton in Newton Abbot. The event will be starting at around 11am and will include classes for Championship, Expert and Clubman riders. Sunday’s event will be held on a course consisting of a six mile lap made up of Woodland and Fields and will run for a duration of three hours. Trials
This coming weekend will celebrate the twenty-eighth edition of the FIM Trial des Nations, as the longstanding annual event arrives in the northern town of Tolmezzo, Italy. In the Men’s event the British team will be looking for top honour’s. For 2011 the team will consist of Dougie Lampkin, James Dabill, Michael Brown and Jack Challoner with Martin Lampkin acting as team manager. Also taking place at the event in Tolmezzo will be the Women’s Trials Des Nation event and for 2011 Becky Cook, Emma Bristow and Hannah Styles will be looking to go one better in the event. After narrowly missing out on the win last year by one point and winning the year before by one point the competition with the Spanish will be fierce. The girls have upped their game again this year and will all be out in force to regain the Trials Des Nations trophy again this time around. It is hoped that with the guidance and support of the fellow riders and team managers, that both the Men’s and Women’s teams can produce strong results in the 2011 Trial des Nations.
Grasstrack
This weekend the Maidstone Aces MCC Ltd will be hosting the 60th Anniversary ACU British Grasstrack Championships. The event will be taking place at the Boarded Circuit at Collier Street in Tonbridge. Sunday’s event will feature 250 and 350 solos, along with 500cc and 1000cc Left Hand Sidecars. Racing will start at 1pm on Sunday with camping on site from Friday. For more information visit www.maidstone-aces.co.uk.
Road Racing
This weekend NG Road Racing will be moving to Pembrey for the penultimate meeting of the 2011 season. There is still everything to play for, but a slip up for the title challengers could prove disastrous. For anyone with an eye on a championship title a good result is vital. The 1.456 mile Pembrey circuit throws up a series of demanding challenges for the riders. The circuit has two very distinct sections split by the Hachetts and Brooklands hairpins. The technical section from Hatchets, through Spitfires, Dibeni, Paddock and the Esses changes after heavy braking at Brooklands as the fast sweeping sections through the Speedway, Woodlands and Honda Curve take over. Despite the hairpin sections lap speeds in excess of 90mph are needed for glory. Pembrey (sat nav: SA16 0HZ) is situated in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, just off the A284 Llanelli to Carmarthen Road, about 13 miles from J48 of the M4. There are ample road signs as you approach the circuit. Practice and qualifying takes place from 9am with the first race proper starting at 11:00am on Saturday and about 10:00am on Sunday (All times can be subject to slight change). The cost to get in is £12 per adult with children under 15 free. For more information contact www.ngroadracing.org or BARC at www.barc.net.
The penultimate round of the Darley Moor Road Race Club Championship gets underway this weekend, Sunday 18th September, but not only catering for fans of 2, 3 and 4-wheeled modern machinery there will also be ‘races’ for the Classic enthusiast when the ‘Thunderfest’ motorcycles take to the tarmac. A huge variety of machinery and sounds will be out on track, dating between 1956 – 1986, from British single cylinder ‘thumpers’ through to Yamaha’s 4 cylinder, 2 stroke TZ750. However, the ‘Thunderfest’ winner does not necessarily need to be the quickest rider around the track. After the practice session and a 10 lap race, each competitor then has 2 hours to predict their own race speed to Race Control for the next 10 lap race. The winner will be the competitor who completes the race with the time closest to that predicted. As always Practice begins at 10.00 AM with the first race expected at 11.30 AM. Entrance admission Adults £11.00, Senior Citizens £6.00, kids under 16 free, parking & paddock transfer free, with Programmes £3.00. Food is available throughout both days at the ‘Darley Diner’. For further information please log onto the Club’s website www.darleymoor.co.uk where you can also listen to live commentary direct from the meeting if you cannot attend.
If your club is running an event in the coming weeks and would like to be a part of this feature please contact Richard Blyth on pr@acu.org.uk with details of your event.
