On the 21st August saw the battling British Team head to Germany for the World Team Cup. After losing David Howe and Richard Hall due to injury, replacement riders Mitch Gooden and Paul Cooper joined Andrew Appleton and Glen Phillips.
The British team battled hard all night long and finished a well-deserved third place to see Team GB return to the podium for the first time since 2008. But the result doesn’t tell the full story of the nights events.
A cruel twist of fate while in a race with the Czech’s Appleton suffered a mechanical fault with his machine whilst in the lead. The result would play vital in the end result as Team GB missed out on the chance to go into the main Gold Medal final.
Team GB claimed the Bronze medal after beating the Czech Republic team in the Bronze Medal race. It was the home nation Germany that took the Gold Medal ahead of Holland in the Silver Medal position.
