Norfolk MXC Championship round 5 report

Round 5 of the Norfolk MXC Championship was held at their home track – Sculthorpe Airfield. After some varying types of British Summer Weather in the preceding week, and a bit of watering, the track was in great condition thanks to the maintenance team and the riders were looking forward to the day ahead. The hardworking committee had managed to pull in some new members and some old faces reappeared to give the club a much needed boost.

The Autos began the day and young Kieran Rudd finished up with a maximum. Maisie Elvin-Andrews finished fourth, not far behind Harry Dorken and Louie Cottrill. Tyler Catt suffered a DNF in the first heat and sat out the rest of the day.

The 65’s were the first group to complete the whole track. Wayne Cottrill soon got to grips with it and took a maximum followed by Tai Elvin-Andrews, Kacey Norman and Callum Lake.

The SW85s were dominated by Edward Elers, who threw a maximum away by dropping his bike in a dusty berm as he was comfortably edging clear in the final heat. Ashley Rudd capitalised to take a race win and second overall, with Harry Richardson third. Ben Smith made the trip from Suffolk and took only his “second trophy ever” home. Hal Whyatt finally gave in after losing his front brake and Aiden Bunning had to miss the last heat as his gearbox ate itself.

Following some controversy whereby the BW85s were forced to run with the SW85s for the first heat, it was decided by the Clerk of the Course to allow both groups to run separately. Ryan Rudd continued his family’s trend for the day and romped off with 3 wins. Kane Fisher took the seconds and Blair Herring rounded out the top 3 overall. Missing out on a trophy by just 2 points was Connor Bunkle, who was rather annoyed as his Nan had sponsored the meeting! Making his Dads day was Connor Battersby who completed his first meeting, at the third attempt due to mechanical issues!!!

Rayn Mackintosh took the overall in the Schoolboys with another maximum and Luke Basey-Fisher not far behind. Daniel Dunbabin completed all three races in his first race back and on a new bike.
Both the Adult Open and U35s raced together, though were scored seperately. Luke Parker took the overall, but Tim Warnes win in the opener prevented him taking a maximum. Joe Scillitoe missed heat 2 with a puncture on the line, while Ty Tugwell broke his ankle on-board (or not) his 450. In the pensioners group Darrell Parker (no relation) ended up with the same result as his namesake. This time it was, Club Chairman, Paul Richardson who rained on his parade. Rick Gorrell finished third overall, while Lee Rudd let the family down with 4th and not a win in sight. Racing for the first time in a long time was Les Battersby, though he only completed 1 heat as did Andy Herring and Rob Ashton.
