Merthyr Motor Club held a round of the East South Wales Centre Championship incorporating a round of their Club Championship on Sunday 14th August at Pengarnddu near Merthyr Tydfil. This event was also run as a charity event raising funds for World Mental Health Day (WMHD).
Format for the day 8 sections 4 laps for sportsman and sportsman master riders with the rest of the classes riding 9 section 4 laps. All sections were marked out between two long stream gullies. Section 3 on the clubman route was a big waterfall where only the brave hearted got through for a clean. Section’s 4 and 9 were the two big sections for the expert class; section 4 was a 6ft shear step dropping back into the stream with section 9 being another slippery waterfall.
Jake Evans-Luter taking the win in this class closely followed by Lloyd Price and Alistair Bedford. Gavin Richards had the “Predictable Lap” win of the day beating Martin Price and Martin Jones respectively in the master class. Neil Dinwoodie showed he still had it winning the clubman class with Stephen Washer coming a close second. Winning the sportsman master class was Rob Ransom with Richard Davies taking the honours in the sportsman class.
Competing in the youth class Liam Owens rode exceptionally well dropping only 17 marks on the master route with Joe Evans-Luter taking the win over in the sportsman master youth class. Special thanks to the land owner for the use of this venue, which hasn’t been used for over 30 years. Dai Bedford Clerk of the Course would also like to thank the usual boys for their help in marking out the course and all observers and helpers on the day.
