Osets Take on Ian's Rocks

This Saturday saw 19 electric bikes take part in the 5th round of the Yeadon Guiseley Oset Cup at Ian’s Rocks nr Menwith Hill. Without doubt the most difficult of the championship venues for the organisers to set out. It proved to be little deterrent to the fledgling riders. They all tackled each section with fearless determination.

Mike Hinch, chairman of Yeadon Guiselely DMC, said: “It was another wonderful turnout for the Oset Cup and we were delighted to welcome four brand new riders. We now have two observers to keep the time down and make sure the youngsters stay motivated right to the end.” Flynn Collings from Baildon, Charlot Pearson from Yeadon, William Blythe from Ripon and Bailey Craine from Macclesfield all thoroughly enjoyed their first time out with the Osets!

Amazingly, the first two finishers were only separated by the furthest clean which was awarded to Harry Mugridge on 11. Henry Stephenson could not have come any closer as both riders had the same amount of marks, cleans, 1’s and 2’s. The championship is certainly hotting up and as it stands there are three riders all with a chance of lifting the 16” trophy.
Rider of the day went to Leyburn’s Callum Fowler after attacking every section and showing great determination. His trophy, cap and T’shirt were presented to him by small wheels star Gabby Whitham.

Nigel Pearson, owner of Trials UK and attending the event with his daughter for the first time, said: “I’m delighted Charlot is really enjoying her Oset and along with the other two girls riding in the cup it proves that this sport is great for girls and boys. This was her first ever trial and whilst being extremely proud of her it was great to see her have lots of fun and make new friends - we’re looking forward to next time!”

The next Oset trial staged by Yeadon Guisley will take place at the club’s flagship event – the National MacKenzie Trial at Brimham Rocks, HG3 4DW. Ahead of the country’s best riders’ practice lap, the Osets will hold their own mini- event at 12 noon on Saturday 06 August.

“You just never know we might just be watching the next James Dabill or Jack Challoner, both of whom have ridden with this club since they were youngsters themselves,” finished Mike Hinch.
